Week 1 Challenge

Aim: Determine various dead loads on the box girder.

Introduction: To Design the Box girder bridge, first we can calculate dead load of structure. For calculating dead load we check density of material which multiplies by cross sectional area of structure .after the multiplication we can get load in per which units is KN/m or KG/m. This load is applied as UDL for calculating moment of structure.

Let Calculate cross section area using cad

After drawing section at cad then fillet the joint of which radius is 0.4 m at outer and 0.2 m at inner side which shown at figure

At last hatch the section for calculating the area of cross section which is shown at following figure

The area of cross section is about 4.8154 m2 which is multiply by unit weight of concrete 25 KN/m3

=4.8154 x 25=120.38 say 120.4 KN/m its self weight of structure

And let’s assume other load which are also applied on structure i.e. parapet wall load

Lets weight parapet wall on structure 6.5 KN/m

Total load applied KN/m=120.4 +2x6.5=133.4 KN/m

START modelling of beam

USING ADD BEAM

ADD TWO START FROM 0 AND END AT 12 M, THEN JOIN IT

ASSIGN PIN SUPPORT TO MEMBER

ADD LOAD CASE FOR APPLY DEAD LOAD ON STRUCTURE

Add UDL LOAD ON MEMBER OF -133.4 KN/m

Assign udl load on beam

DEFINE FACTORED LOAD CASE

AFTER DEFINING FACTORED LOAD CASE THEN PERFORM ANALYSIS THE FILE

RESULTS

We have get maximumn B.M AT CENTRE OF THE STRUCTURE

MAx Shear force is also shown in figure
