Challenge

Usage of Collaborate tool in REVIT

Usage of Collaborate Tool in Revit.

1). Open an architectural template. Using the Manage tab set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Aim: - To Set project point and project shared co-ordinates for the project.

Procedure: -

To create project shared co-ordinates

  • Open architectural tab.

  • Open manage tab.
  • Click on project co-ordinates and then specific shared co-ordinates.

  • In east/west type 0’0’’

To create project base points

  • Select the architectural tab and select grids and draw the grids.
  • Rename the grids.
  • Select the manage tab and select specify co-ordinate at point and select one grid and specify as 0’0’’
  • Select the specify co-ordinates at a point and select another grid and specify 0’0’’.

Result: The project base point and shared co-ordinates are connected.

2). Open another new file but with a structural template. Using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model. Copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually into the structural model.

Aim: - To Create structural template with the same parameters as architectural project template.

Procedure: -

  • Open new file.
  • Click on structural template.

  • Go to manage tab project co-ordinate shared co-ordinates.

  • In east/west type 0’0’’

Result: The project parameters are created in structural plan.

3). Re-open the architectural model. Using the tools under the Collaborate tab make the architectural model a central model (enabling simultaneous working on the model).

Aim: - To Create architectural model a central model using collaborate tool

Procedure: -

  • Open the architectural template file in Revit.
  • Select collaborate tab and select collaborate
  • Two option will appear on the screen.
  • Select the option within the network and press ok.

Result: The Architectural model is made central using collaborate tool.

4). Create the Grids Longitudinal and Transverse pattern for the project similar to the task done in Week 2

Aim: - To Create grids in longitudinal and transverse pattern

Procedure: -

  • Open the architectural template file in Revit.

  • Go to architectural tab>datum tab>grids.
  • Draw the grids in transverse and longitudinal direction according to the plan of the project.
  • Rename the grids as per standards.

Result: The Grids are drawn.

5). Synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

Aim: - Synchronize the changes from local central file of architectural model.

Procedure: -

  • Open the architectural template file in Revit.
  • Select the manage tab and select synchronize tab and click ok.

Result: The Synchronize is done.

6). Open the structural model and use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file.

Aim: - To Open structural model and using the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file.

Procedure: -

  • Open the Structural template file in Revit.
  • Select the collaborate tab and select collaborate.

  • Select the collaborate within your network save it as saving for the first time it will make a central file.

  • Then synchronize with central and modify.

Result: The model is Synchronized

7). Under the Collaborate tab, select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to the structural model. See what happens when the copy monitored grid is moved around in the structural model.

Aim: - Using collaborate tab, select grids and levels from the architectural model and copy monitor, select link and copy monitor.

Commands used: collaborate copy monitor, select link and copy.

Procedure: -

  • Open the architectural tab and select collaborate tab select copy monitor and select link so my structural drawings is linked.

  • Select the grids and levels and select multiple and select copy.

  • Select the finish command.
  • Open the structural template file and grids and columns will be found in structural template.

8). Create another new file with a construction template. Save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model. Under the manage tab, Click manage links to link both architectural and structural files. Save the file and close all the files.

Aim: - To Create a new file with a construction template which includes bath architectural and structural model.

Commands used: manage, manage links.

Procedure: -

  • Open the new file and save it as construction template.

  • Select the collaborate tab and collaborate the file as central file.
  • Select both architectural and structural template and press ok.
  • Both the file will be opened in the combined one.

RESULT:

9). Are the grids from structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created? If yes the model is set up for project 2. If not work on the shared parameters and linking options under Manage links
( Hint: origin to origin, by shared coordinates or by project base point to base point ) to link the models in an appropriate manner

Aim: - Insert the grids from structural template to architectural template and check whether it is matching with each other.

Procedure: -

  • Open the architectural template and select manage tab.

  • In the manage tab select the manage links and select the structural template drawing.
  • Both the grids will appear in the arch template and it is not coinciding.

  • Select the arch grid and select acquire coordinates and select the arch template grid.
  • Select the position icon and click relocate position and select the intersection point of the grids.
  • The grids will be positioned.

Result: My structural and architectural model are coinciding in the construction template created, therefore my week-6 challenge is set up for project 2.

10). List a flow chart of a project tree set up in terms of construction model, architecture & structure model, in this exercise and understand how many people can work on the same project using Revit simultaneously.

Answer: For the construction model the project tree is as:

  • Site access.
  • Logistics and storage.
  • Quality control
  • Outstanding contract details.
  • Outstanding design-related challenges
  • Health and safety.

For Architecture model.

  • Schematic design
  • Design development
  • Co-Bidding
  • Construction administration.
  • Modelling Walls
  • Modelling Windows
  • Modelling Doors
  • Assigns Materials
  • Modelling Architectural Roofing’s & Ceilings
  • Enables to provide the geographic conditions.
  • Modelling staircase
  • Creates openings
  • Architectural model in overall beauty of a building

For Structural model.

  • The primary objective of structure analysis and design is to produce a structure capable of resisting all applied loads without failure during its intended life. If improperly designed, elements of a structure would fail causing serious consequence such as large expenses.
  • Once the architectural engineer sets the function and layout of the structure, the role of the structural engineer begins which can be summarized in the following steps to develop a safe, functional and economic structures.
  • Modelling column
  • Modelling Beam
  • Modelling Footing
  • Modelling structural floors
  • Modelling slabs
  • Tree systems
  • Modelling connections
  • Structural model in general develops the entire frame work of a structure.
