Underbody Coating
Underbody coating and its purposes.
Under side of the car is directly exposed to the dust and muds of the road. these exposure for a long time leads to form a rust in the car body. Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.

Four types of Under body coating
1. Polyurethane under body coating
It close up fractures and splits in the underside of the vehicle. It bonds well with the metal and offers good protection against corrosion. Paint can be applied over this coating.
2. Wax based undercoating
It is an afforadable and easy solution. It protects heavily against moisture.
3. Rubberized underbody coating
Applying this coating to the underbody is easy. It is widely used and It is considered the optimum for the car. it preserves the under well and protects it from scratches.
4. Asphalt under body coating
This coating is preferred mainly for havy duty vehicles. It is time consumimg and It has a rubber insulation to it for damping the sound. It gives a higer degree of protection with respects to other.
METHODS
1.Oil spray
1.1 Dripless - in this process a waxy layer is applied to the undercarriage and the main body being a strong protection to both. it however has a lesser longevity.
1.2 Drip - It is very effective for the undercarriage. it has no bubbling and cover all the corners of the undercarriage. it forms a good layer of protection.
2. Electronics - The body and the undercarriage is dipped fully inside an electrolyte. It reduces the chance of rusting by giving it a layerof electrolytic material coating.
3. Spray - It is a commom method used by services center. It is used to protect already produced cars from day to day hazards as mentioned in the introduction.
Advantage
- Protects important and vital car components.
- Prevents from corrosion and rust.
- Reduces noise level vibration.
- Gives longevity to the vehicles.
- Prevent chipping of paint.
Disadvantages
- undercoating will not help full if the corrosion already exists.
- it add weight to the vehicles.
- it required a recoating in every 3to5 years for good results.
