Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING:
A coating is a extra layer of covering surface that is applied to the surface of a body for long term protection from environmental & abnormal conditions.
when we are speaking with the automobile especially BIW the underbody coating is a coating process done under the bottom side of the car which is the conjuction layer supposed to be exposed for climatic conditions.
This underbody coating is a treatment which is designed to provide long term protection for internal body pannels, rails & cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to enviromental conditions that produces diverse array of effects like corrosion, wear & tear, decay e.t.c.
In the feild of coating the underbody coating is broadcasted in to following methods.
Rubberized Underbody Coating:
The name itself is indicates this is undercoating process which uses rubber as a major element in the coating process .
As having the rubber as major part it also consumes its wide properties like moisture prevention, scratch&dust resistance , sound absortion e.t.c
It is one of the easiest way of underboady coating without any hassle.
Wax Based Underbody Coating:
This is a coating process uses Wax as a major element , this wax based undercoating bears a big wall against moisture. This coating process is quickest way for new processing as well as it will wear away in a few months span compared to all ther types because of temparuture fluctuations. This most affordable coating process.
Asphalt Based Automotive Underbody Coating:
This type of coating is prefered for commercial vehicles like Trucks, Buses e.t.c which will provide premium protection compared to rubber based coating.
This coating comprises little amount of rubber for sound insulation purposes. This is most time consuming method for processing.
Polyurethane Underbody Coating:
This coating has a capacity of closing up spilts and fractures on under body which offers good protection from corrosion and also bonds with the metal.
PRONS OF UNDERCOATING:
As the automobile will be devoloped for longer use and to work at different climatic conditions at vast areas which has rocky to salty in nature of path. The undercoating holds the following effects under control.
1.Rust: It is the foremost reason where undercoating is devoloped which reduces the life of the metal. This undercoating process mainly comes in to handy mainly during winter & at areas which has more humidity with salty moisture which has high risk to form rust.
2.Noise: As most of the coating uses rubber in thier composition because it has good ability to absorb the sound, it may be sound made by ractes , screws, forced air infornt ,e.t.c. It can't make the level of sound to null but it can soften the sound so that the passengers could spare themselves from road noises.
3.Reinforcement: The coating itself says its an additional reinforcement of protection for stock part to avoid from water, road debris, gravel , small pebbles e.t.c this mainly passing on muddy roads.it will also covers the seals , welds and body work.
4.Wear & Tear: This one directly proportional to the rust.If the rust produced is less the wear & tear can surely add years to the lifespan of the vehicle.
5.Anti-Chipping: This coatings will have good binding materials will help not to chip off in to peices when it was hit by pebble stones in journey.
6.Temparature changes (humidity): The raise and lower in temparature will make corrosion to spread wide and fast . These coating will insulate the tempature and helps to mainatain optimal tempature.
CONS OF UNDERCOATING:
This is the application required proces implemented for protection purpose. the cons will be mostly neglible in this type of cases but only con will be , this process will works best on new vehicles which are not exposed to road conditions. The used vehicles exposed to road condtions and which had undergone corossion effects will be too costly to service.
