Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING :
Underbody coating is the coating which provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody.It also protects parts like internal body panels,frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
This underbody coating alsohelps in protection from dust,moisture and other factors such as poor road condition etc.
MODERN AUTOMOTIVE COATING PROCESS :
The modern automotive process consists of 5 steps.
*Pre-treatment :
In this process removes and cleans excess metals and forms apropriate surface structure enabling bonding of a corrosion protection layer.
*ED Coating :
This is elecrodeposition of the anti-corrosion or rust prevention layer.
*Sealer :
A sealer like poly vinyl chloride is applied for anti-corrosion,elimination of water leaks and minimization of chipping and vibrational noise.
*Primer:
Primer is the first layer of paint coating to promote adhesion between surface and the base coat.It also imparts a smoother surface for subsequent layers and has anti-chipping property.
*Topcoat :
It is the final coat that includes a base coat and clear coat are aplied.They provide surface properties including colour,appearance,smoothness,weather resistance etc.

Underbody coatings are categorised into various types depending upon the type of material used.
* Rubberized underbody coating :
These coatings are easy to apply and offer sound-cushioning as well as protection from dust moisture and dents.The coatings are safe even to use on wheel wells and quarter panels.
*Polyurethane underbody coating :
This type of under coating is little quicker and easy to apply.This type of under coating often comes in a canister ready to preload into application gun.This type of undercoating always requires surface preparations before applying.
*Wax or paraffin based underbody coating :
This undercoating will be the cheapest and quickest option available in the market.But these coatings are no last longer.
*Asphalt based underbody coating:
This underbody coating is mainly used for light commercial vehicles such as trucks,bus etc.This coating is used for sufficient protection against rock chips and moisture.
