Underbody Coating

Under-body coating

Under body coating is spray or paint applied to the underside of vehicle to protect it from corrosion , dirt and other environmental damage . it is typically applied to car truck and SUVs even also used for boats too.

Underbody coating is designed to provid long term protection against rust and corrosion, it helps to reduce noise from the road and wind , making the ride more comfortable , it can be applied quickly with minimal effort and mess , but under bodycoating can be expensive depending on the brand it get differs, it need specialized tools and techniques to do it properly .

Different types of underbody coating.

  • Zinc rich primer
  • Wax based undercoating
  • Rubberized undercoating
  • Ceramic undercoating
  • Polyurethane undercoating
  • Aluminum undercoating
  • Fluid Flim undercoating
  • Tar based undercoating
  • Asphalt based under coating

Zinc rich primer undercoating

It is used on vehicles and other metal structures, typically provide corrosion protection , It is made up of mixture of Zinc poeder and binder , the zinc provides a sacrificial barrier to corrosion .

Pors

It is effective corrosion protection system offering lasting protection to the body of vehicle

It is cost effective as it can be last for several years with minimum maintenace

cons

It can be flammable and should be used with caution in areas where there is a rich of fire

It can be diffcult to remove once it has been applied .

Wax based undercoating

It is used on vehicles and other metal structures, typically provide corrosion protection, the wax contains polymers that form a protective barrier between metal and the enviroment .

Pors

It is relatively inexpensive ans easy to apply , durable and long lasting protection against enviroment damage.

Cons

It is difficult to remove and they can be affected by high temperatures and UV lights , diffcult to apply on uneven surfaces.

Rubberized undercoating

It is polymer or rubber based coating that is used on underside of vehicle to protect against rust and corrosion . it is designed to provide a water proof barrier that can withstand the elements like road salt & dirts.

Pors

It is water proof barrier , protects from scratches and scrapes, improve the fuel efficency.

Cons

It can be diffcuilt to apply ,expensive and diffcult to remove.

Ceramic undercoating

It is protective coating that applied to a vehicle underbody to protect it from rust, corrosion and abrasion, where applied to the frame ,engine and other parts of vehicle located on underneath.

Pros

It reduce the road and tire noise.

Cons

It is expensive and difficult to apply properly , it can damaged by road debris ,dirt and salt.

Polyurethane undercoating

It is protective coating that applied to a vehicle underbody to protect it from rust, corrosion and other damage. It is a two part system cosisting of a basecoat and a topcoat.

Pros

It providce excellent protection against rust and corrosion, durable and long lasting then easy to apply.

Cons

It can be expensive ,not resistant to chemicals and solvents , not easily removed after applied and it may crack after over time.

Aluminum undercoating

It is protective coating that applied to a vehicle underbody to protect it from rust, corrosion and other damage

where usually applied by a professional , who willl first clean and prepare the surface to be free from dirt .

Pros

It is cost effective way to protect a vehicle from corrosion and quick and easy.

Cons

It will wear of over time , leaving the metal unprotected , it is also not sutiable for use on certain types of metal alloys, so need to check before coating.

Fluid Flim undercoating

It is designed to protect the vehicle from rust and corrosion it also help to reduce road noise and vibration , provide a smoother ride, the coating is applied as quick liquid and then dries to a thin flim.

Pros

Easy to apply, smoother ride, reduce road noise and vibration.

Cons

It can be expensive ,need to reapplied periodically and diffcult to remove if needed.

Tar based undercoating

It is protective coating that applied to a vehicle underbody to protect it from rust, corrosion and other damage It is uaually applied by a professional who can spray it onto the vehicle or paint it on with brush.

Pros

Easy to apply, smoother ride, reduce road noise and vibration.

Cons

It can be diffcult to remove if needed and not sutiable for all vehicle then diffcult to apply.

Asphalt based under coating

It is protective coating applied to the underside of a car , truck or other vehicle to protect the body from damage caused by road debris , this coating is typically applied as spray on or roll on product and provides a rough and durable protective layer.

Pros

Easy to apply, smoother ride, reduce road noise and vibration.

Cons

It can be diffcult to apply , additionaly it is not sutiable for all vehicles and can be expensive.

IF any of coating not done properly or not done means it will be the result.
