Under coating -
Under body coating are those which are used to prevent car bodies against rust and corrosion . This under body coating helps in protection from dust and moisture also same other factor such as road conditions ,rocks getting thrown from tires and denting the metal and salt from water during monsoon which plays an important role in damaging the underbelly of a car.
Underbody coating purpose -
1.Underbody is most pron to corrosion.
2. Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car underbody.
3. Car potects parts like internal body panels ,fram rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
Types of underbody coating -
Underbody coating are categorised into various types based on the type of material used and also the cost of the material.
1.Rubberized underbody coating:
These coating are easy to apple and offer sound -cushioning as well as potection from dust ,moisture and dents.The coating are safe even to use on wheel well and quater panels and when it is dried forms a soft rubbery finish that prevent further rust and moisture seep.
2.Polyurethane underbody coating:
This type of undercoating is a lit a bit quicker and easy to apply.This type of undercoating often comes in a canister ready to preload into application gun.This type of undercoating always requies surface preparation before applying.
3.Wax or paraffin-based underbody coating:
Wax or paraffin-based undercoating will be the cheapest and quickest option available in the market.But this coating last only for one year of duration.
4.Asphalt-based underbody coating:
The avobe-mentioned undercoating is mianly used for light commercial vehicles.For vehicles such as truck,buses,vans,ect.asphalt-based undercoating is used for sufficient protection against rock chips and moisture.These asphalt-based undercoating have a little bit of rubberised material that set up firmly and also helps in reduction in noise.
Pros and cons of underbody coating:
1.Minimizes sound: It minimizes the sound from underneath the car.
2.Heat insulater: It insulater the interior of the car from the extreme temperature from beneath the vehicle.
3.Anti-chipping property: The coating does not chip away when hit by stones.
4.Underbody coating will not help you if corrosion already exists and the corrosion removeed first before it can be applied.
