Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING:-
As we Drive in the car for longer distances or shorter distances, we experience the Road as rough consisting Dirty Water, Mud, Stones, Quarry Dust etc., which makes the car experience the Wear and tear beneath the chassis or underbelly parts despite the smooth drive. It could lead to some serious issues, causing Rust there to leading to corrosion If it is not taken care of.
Here underbody coating comes into play. Underbody coating can be well explained as protective layer, basically a layer of protection which is applied by “spraying accessory” which covers and protects the internal body panels, cavities, silencer etc., and it is applied to the Metal parts. There is a separate spray depending on the material that part has been made of, separate parts like silencer. For Silencer Zinc coating is done.
Underbody coating sometimes comes with the car in default way while we are buying the car from dealership or sometimes its an Add-on. Sometimes it has to be applied after buying the car.
PROCEDURE: -
CLEANING THE UNDERBODY: -
By lifting the car with the help of hydraulic hoist, must remove all the dirt, mud, Quarry dust etc., by Water wash and then Force full pumping of air in cavities where there won’t be any plain sight to drying off the water droplets.
APPLYING THE PRIMER: -
Have to apply the Primer as Base coat following particular procedures and steps to achieve the desired result. Basically primer or Base coat consists “ZINC” which helps in preventing the formation of rust by forming separate layers with the metal on which it is getting applied. Basically like a Galvanization, and zinc is also ages at a far rate than that of steel as most of the parts are made of.
APPLYING UNDERCOATING: -
Now have to apply the undercoating as first coat and letting it dried off for certain time and then applying the second coat following the procedures and step to achieve the Desired Results. Further it should be taken care to letting it dry off.
The Applied underbody coating help in preventing the metal underneath the car body or chassis to oxidize, thereby preventing rust to form leading to corrosion.
TYPES: -
- UNDERBODY COATING: - A spraying accessory that protects the underneath / underbelly vehicle body
- RUST PROOFING: - A protective layer of Wax is applied to Rust or corrosion prone areas where water molecules or droplets gets accumulated like Fenders, Weld points etc.,
- RUST PROTECTION: - A Protective layer of Rubber, which is also called as Rust Inhibitor is applied, which primarily prohibits the circulation of electric current which leads to oxidization and there by to Rust.
PROS: -
- Helps in preventing the Rust Formation leading to Corrosion. When driving in the wet and dirty roads particularly in monsoons which helps in accumulation of water molecules at weld points and some areas where there is no plain sight.
- Helps in preventing the wear and tear when driving in uneven and rough roads consisting potholes, stones, gravel etc., exactly like a reinforcement.
- Acts a sound inhibitor. While driving on the road, As when undercoating made out of rubber helps in preventing the sound entering the passenger and driving cabin.
- Increases the life of car.
CONS: -
- Procedure is bit expensive.
- If it is not done in right away, still water molecules remains which lead to formation of rust and sometimes reacts with coated layer there by leading to chipping off the layer that applied. Sometimes creating a gap between the applied coating leading to providing a space for water molecules get accumulated in between those gaps.
THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY!
