Underbody Coating
UNDER-BODY COATING
Under-Body coating is used in the place of minimizing the corrosion of car body. The under-body coat acts as an preventive agent for body of the car. Due to the muddy area's the panel under the car body may suffer with wear and tear kind of toubles, to overcome the issue Under-Body coating is used.
Under-Body coating is used in the sense to prevent rust formation around the enviromental calamities and also through damage with low clearance of body. These coating also prevents the chasis and channel of the car body internally without causing any damage to it. In many of the manufacturing industries, to minimise the manufacturing cost they tend to reduce or completely eliminate the coating session. These leads to major issue to the consumers.

Purposes of using Under-Body coating
There are major points of using under body coating below mentioned are few purposes of it;
- Prevent from stone chipping
The usage of underbody coating prevents the undercarriage from major chipping on the travel though. In our country there are plenty of pathholes and muddy area's to be precise, if to prevent the body of the car from all those damages underbody coating plays an vital role on it.
- Rust and corrosion
Prevents from rust and corrosion by simply applying an rubberised undercoat to the carriage that could prevent the corrosion from external enviromental calamities.
Types of Under-Body Coating
Based upon the usage of under body coating there are some methods to be preferred with different type of processings which all satisfy the purpose of corrosion and rust free under body.
1. Wax based underbody coating
This method involves an agent of applied wax polish under the body of the car. The whole under body has to be drenched with the wax polish and then left it to dry to see the maximum result. At specific amount of point holes to be drilled and filled with the wax all through that, sometimes it may be bit difficult to fill the whole fully.
2. Undercoating
This method involves spraying of tar substanse on the base region of the underbody, the substance acts like a fence once it hardens. This method works best applied to the undercarriage of the body or it may lack moisture and tends to crack.
3. Rubberized underbody coating
The durability of this method is best of choice. This prevents the under carriage way more better and the processing of this method is not much of hectic one.
4. Spray coating
This is the most commonly used method for rust protection. It may be used with different methods of resin-based, wax type based upon the need of the consumer and model.
Benefits of underbody coating:
The benefit of using underbody coating gives us more layer of protection against rust and corrosion, which in advance protects our car. This coat tends to protect even during the climatic changes from winter to summer and provides years of protection for the chassis and the channel body.
Advantages of undercoating
- Rust and corrosion
Undercoating plays an important role in preventing the rust and corrosion from humidity and rusting from natural calamities. It surely depends on the place of stay, if in hilly areas humidity would tend to case rust and corrosion.
- Noise reduction
Since the undercoating is made up of rubber it absorbs all the vibrations and impact under the body, where it leaves vibration less travel.
- Reinforcement
Usage of another coating on top of previous coat will not make much in cost, it will be an added reinforcement for the body to provide extra life from mud, gravel, pothole and pebbles on the road.
- Car’s lifespan
Undercoating will not protect the chassis from corrosion alone, it also protects the engine and transmission inside the channel as well. This will add extra amount of lifespan to the vehicle little longer.
Disadvantages of Underbody coating
Undercoating after examining, this may result better in new vehicles since it does not expose to the roads after testing.
A used vehicle may have corroded part on bottom of the car with tiny spots, coating on top of that will not provide 100% result since it was already corroded, these can be prevented by removing the previous coat with new one but this one may cost much.
This also includes the location of drive, if the vehicle is often used in dusty area’s the undercarriage can hold up to 25,000km milage on top of that it should be regularly inspected and maintained, if not the whole coating needs to be removed and replaced with new one. This also go for vehicle owners under the sea region area’s where the humidity differs rapidly.
