Underbody Coating
Underbody Coating
Underbody coating is a cladding usually thick, which is uniformly sprayed or painted on the underside of the car. This is done to protect and prevent scratches & rust formation on the underbody. There are several types of underbody coating like:
- Rubberised - This is widely used & easy to apply on to the underbody of a vehicle.
- Wax based – This type doesn’t last as long as the rubberised underbody coating, however it is resistant to dampness & also is the most cost-effective alternative.
- Asphalt based – This type is most suitable for lorries, trucks & other heavy vehicles. Compared to the rubberised underbody coating this provides higher level of protection. The application of this coating takes a lot of time.
- Polyurethane- This seals brakes & fractures. It helps to provide strong corrosion resistance & binds to metal.
Advantages
- Fights rust
- Absorbs moisture
- Acts as reinforcement
- Prolongs car life
- Easy to apply
- Reduces interior noise
Disadvantages
- No use if corrosion already exists.
- Works better on new cars
- Adds extra weight to the vehicle.
