Benchmarking

• Benchmarking is a part of the predesign & development process.
• It is a term for comparison.
• It consists of basically studying the other products available in the market & what improvements can be done to the new product so as to boost its sales.
• There are two types of benchmarking:

-Benchmarking I

• Product level comparison
• Comparison between the type of car & their respective features

-Benchmarking II

• Part level comparison
• Detailed benchmarking of individual parts.
• Takes about 5-6 months
• Contains details like thickness, material, no.of parts, weight etc.
