Under body coating
Under body coating are used to prevent car bodyes against rust and corrosion. It helps in protection from dust and moisture also. Som other factors such as poor road and weather condition, Rocks getting thrown by tiers and denting the mettal, Salt from water during rain seasons.
Under body coating provides long term protuction from corrosion to car under body. It protects parts like Internal car body panels, Frame rails and other inner cavities that are not phycially accessiable. But are prone to corrosion.
Steps of under body coating :
1. Pre Treatement
Pre treatement cleans the body surface to remove remaining oils from the stamping process and Welding residues through 3 primary liquid dip processes of Degreasing, Conditioning and Phospating. The solution is composed of Alkaline salt and Surfactants and can include Costic soda, Tri-Sodium Phosphate and Sodium carbonate.
2. Electro Deposition
In Electro Deposition the metal under body, frame and roop top of automiles are coated to prevent corrosion. All the vechicle body primed before appling additional coating. The ED coating provides rust and corrosion protection.
3. Rust-proof Materials pvc/sealer
This is the third step is under body coating. Seam sealing using PVC and urethane are used. The sealant is applied around inside the door, hoods, trunk, front dash board, in the interior and exterior of mettal joint in the vechicle.
4. Primer Coating
This is the forth step of underbody coating. primer can be water bonrne solvent or powder. It improves adhesion between E-coat and Top coat. Provides chipping protuction, Enhances paint apperance. Also be environmental compatible with emission regulations.
5. Top coating
It is the final step in the under body coating process. It consists of two layers Base coat and Clear coat. Base coat contains the primary colouring pigment and The Clear coat provides a provides a Protective coating against enveronmental effects. Like corresion, UV light degradation. It provides smooth unblemished even finish.
Types of Under body coating :
* Rubberized coating
It protects from dust, moisture and dents. this coating using on wheel wells and qwartes panel. It forms a soft rubbery finish.
* Polyurethane coating
This is a lit bit quicker and easy to apply. It often comes in a conister reads to preload into application gun.
* Asphalt based coating
It is used in light commercial vechicale, such as truck, bus and vans. Used for sufficient protection against rock chips and moisture.
* Wax or Paraffin based coating
It will be the quickest and cheapest opetion aveliable in the market. But these caots last only in small duretion.
* Water based coating
It used to stay protected from harsh water condition. made with advanced polymer, that is non toxic and enveronmentally friendly.
* Petroleum based coating
It is a heavy viscous oil based liquid product. That provides an effective barrier against moisture and corrosion.
Benifits of under body coating :
Rust Fighter : Protects from rust, mositure and dust.
Abnormal noise : Minimize the sound from underneath the car, gives smooth drive experiance.
Reinforcemant : Gives extra protection for car body parts.
Prolong car life : It also help to increase life of the car by avoiding corrosion.
Heat isolater : It insulates the interior from the external temperature also temperature from beneath the vechicle.
Anti chipping property : The coating does not chip away when hit by small stones.
Disadvantage of under body coating :
Coating will be effective only in new cars, for re coating old cars the coating will lost earlyar.
Re-coating will add extra weight on vechicle.
Re-coating cast also heigh.
Less helpfull if corrosion is alredy presence.
It can be damage vechical while clearing corresion surface in the vechical body.
