Underbody Coating

                                                      UNDER BODY COATING : -

Underbody coating ( U . B C ) process is defined as the firm protection against the rust under the body panel of Car with 3M coating protection. It protects the life cycle of body panel from rust means oxidation process and increasing life of a car by 50 %. After proper cleaning of underbody panel and when it is dried completely, then apply the 3M coating for 4 to 5 minutes. It takes approx.. 30 mins. To 1 hr. after coating to dry completely. undercoating provides a more comprehensive protective layer for your vehicle.

The main purpose of undercoating is to check rust especialy in the body components like frame rails along with other exposed metal parts. Underbody coating can also reduce wear and tear .its cost for applying of this coat of 3M about 6000rs .

TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATING

  1. RUBBERIZED UNDERCOATING

Rubberized undercoating is easy to apply, and offers the best protective coating for car’s undercarriage. It cushions surfaces against moisture, rust, dings, and dents. Rubberized undercoating is safe to use on wheel wells, quarter panels and dries with a soft rubbery finish.

  1. ASPHALT-BASED UNDERCOATING

It has higher level of protection suitable for lorry's, Trucks or heavy machinery vehicles. It’s made up with some bits of rubberized material to aid in noise reduction. It offers extra protection against chips and moisture but is not paintable.

  1. POLYURETHANE UNDERCOATING

this type of underbody coating requires some surface preparation work before application, like degreasing, and applying an etching primer to the bare metal. It is easy to apply and works by sealing up cracks. The compound displaces salt and moisture and protects the unoxidized metal from rust. It’s often sold in canisters that are ready to preload into an application gun.

  1. WAX OR PARAFFIN-BASED UNDERCOATING

Wax or paraffin-based undercoating sprays are the cheapest and quickest options available. However, their results don’t last long, and you may have to apply a fresh coat after only a few months. In addition, the wax isn’t very adhesive on a metal surface. Its main advantage is that it seeps quickly into cracks and seams, and offers moderate protective properties against moisture.

pro's

This treatment is designed to provide long-term protection from rust to the under chassis. It protects the underbody substrates from

  • Environmental conditions
  • Impacts
  • Dampens sound and vibration
  • Insulates against cold and heat
  • Protects against Corrosion
  • Seals off seams
  • Hides welds, repairs & bodywork with spray

Minimizes sound

sound from underneath the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.

Anti-chipping property

If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.

External influence

External environment, such as the baking from the hot road in summer; anti-frozen gent in winter, raining water and the salty water in the atmosphere, will attach the under body of a car. Particular in coast areas, the wind from the sea will bring more salt to the air, which will accelerate the corrosion and reduce the service life of a car. While the under body is covered by the thick and tight layers, it would act as a strong barrior to prevent these external substances attaching the metal sheet.

Improve driving comfort

After curing, the under body coating becomes a thick elastic coating covering the whole under body, which could act as a good dampening material, significantly reduce the vibration of the metal sheet and reduce the noise inside the car.

Con's

High cost

The cost of underbody coating is very expensive

Risk of damage during application

The thick rubberized paint if not applied properly can get into moving mechanical parts and may cause premature failures.
