AIM : To plot drag coeff vs drag force, thin disk.
THEORY
Drag Coefficient: cd = [1.1 1 2 3]
Area: A= 1
Density: rho= 1.22
velocity: V= 2
FORMULA of drag force is
drag force= 0.5 X Cd X V^2 X A X rho
PROCEDURE
- open MATLAB.
- type in code in the editor window
- press "RUN"
EXPLAINATION
Drag force is the force that the thin disk has to overcome while gliding through the air, this is an opposing force.
Cd is the drag coeff which is an array.
A is the frontal area.
rho is the density of the fluid, here being the air.
V is the velocity of the thin disk.
Code:
% program to plot drag coeff. vs Drag force, thin disk
clear all
close all
clc
%drag coeff of a thin disk
Cd = [ 1.1 1 2 3];
%area m^2
A= 1 ;
%density kg/m^3
rho=1.22;
%velocity
V=[2] ;
drag_force = 0.5*Cd*V.^2*A*rho
plot(Cd ,drag_force )
grid on
xlabel('drag coeff')
ylabel('Drag force')
RESULT:
the graph has been plotted successfully.
Drag force and Drag Coefficient are directly proportional to each other, which results in an inclined straight line.
