To calculate wind load for industrial steel structures and to apply it by using TSD

ANS 1:-

Aim:- To generate manual wind loading in the design report based IS code as per following input which are mentioned in the question

Given data:-

Wind speed-32 m/s^2

Life of structure-50 years

Class of structure=class A

As per iS 875 part 3, clause 5.3.2.2 structure and /or their components as cladding ,glazing,roofing etc having maxmum dimensions( greatest horizontal or vectoral dimension) lesss than 20 m which is considered as class A.

Terrain category =2(From Table 2)

Total length of the building (l) = 18.007 m

Total height of the building (h)=12 m

Total width of the building (w)=18 m

Tools Required

Tekla model

Dimensions

Microsoft Excel worksheet

Procedure

  1. Firstly open the Tekla software and open the designed model for which wind load has to be applied
  2. Now take the dimensions of the model such as height ,length,width etc
  3. External Pressure coefficient (Cp e)
  4. As per IS 875 part 3 , Table1

For Wind speed-32 m/s^2

K1=1

  1. As per IS 875 part 3 , Table2

For Terrain 2 category

For height=10 m k2=1

For height=15m k2=1.07

There fore for height =12 m

K2=((15-12)*(1.07-1)/(15.10))-1.07

K2=1.028

  1. As per IS 875 part 3 , Table5

h/W=12/18=0.67

there fore h/w lies between 0.5 and 1.5

l/w=18.007/18=1.0003

there fore l/W lies between 1 an 1.5

K3

Topography factore k3=1(from clause 6.3.3)

Importance factor k4=1.15(from clause 6.3.4)

  1. Design wind speed

Vz=Vbk1k2k3k4

Vz=39*1*1.028*1*1.15

Vz=46.1058 m/s

  1. Design wind pressure
  2. From Clause 7.2

Pz=Vz2*0.6

=(46.1058)2 *0.6

Pz=1275.4469N/m2

Pz=1.275kN/ m2

Roof calculation :

We know that h/W=0.6

External coeffiecient from table 6

Slope = sintheta = opp/hyp=2.813/8.939

Theta=18.34

By using interpolation method

(18.34-10)/(20-10)=(x+1.2)/(-1.4+1.2)

X=-1.36

Similarly

(18.34-10)/(20-10)=(x+.4)/(-.4+1.4)

X=1.24

Therefore EF= -1.36

Result:- by doping this we will be able to generate wind load calculations of a model manually

Ans 2:

Aim:- based on the above calculations apply the loads on the model

Tools required

Loads

Load cases

Area load

Properties- direction- load value

Procedure:

  1. Open the model which was designed last week
  2. Open the load cases option
    1. Now go to loads, select area load,global axis and enter the calculated loads to the structure
    2. Adjust the direction to the global Y for face A and B
    3. Adjust the direction to the global X for face C and D
    4. Adjust the direction to global Z for the roof components
    5. For all the sides we have to apply both +Cpi and -Cpi values

    Result:-

    With this all the loads can be applied to the structure

  3. Ans 3:-

    Aim:- On a sperate model generate wind loading using wind Wizard

    Tools used:-

    1. Manage property sets
    2. Beams
    3. Columns
    4. Construction levels
    5. Load cases
    6. Wall panels
    7. Roof panels
    8. Wind wizard
    9. Frames

    PROCEDURE:

    1. open a new file
    2. Create construction levels with required height
    3. Go to manage property sets and create new concrete columns steel columns and beams
    4. Select the base and add the concrete columns
    5. Now add the steel beams and add concrete columns
    6. Now add steel beams from ground floor to First floor
    7. Add dead and live load on the structure
    8. Create frames for the structure
    9. Select the side view and construct the rafter using steel beams option
    10. Now design wall and roof panels for the structure
    11. Click on wind wizard option
    12. Select consider topography and consider cyclonic effect options

    And click on next

    1. Next give the dimensions and enter the wind speed value as 39 m/s and select all general building and industrial structure
    2. Selecr the terrain category and enter the fetch a distance value as 10 m and click on next
    3. The result will be appeared click on next
    4. At last click on finish option
    Now we are successful in applying the wind loads
