Challenge

To calculate dead and live load for industrial steel structures and to apply them using TSD

Ans 1:-

Aim:- To calculate the loads

1

Dead load calcultion

Self weight of slab

Finishes

50

mm

unit weight of concrete

24

kN/m^3

1.2

kN/m^2

2

brickwall load

.=thickness*unitweight*length

Thickness of brick wall

0.15

m

unit weight of brick wall

20

kN/m^3

length of the brick wall

6.8

m

3

brick load

.=0.15*20*6.8

20.4

kN/m

4

Brick load(intermediate floor to roof)

brick wall load

.=0.15*20*4.8

14.4

kN/m

5

Roof load

1.5

kN/m

6

Celing load

0.3

kN/m^2

  1. After doing the above calculations open the Tekla software and go and go to loads

After that click on load combination and then click on the generate in the lower right corner

  1. In the next step we have to add the loads on the slab so for that go to windows and click on property windows(add to quick access toolbar)
  2. Next select the load and add select the dead at lower left corner then in the property window add the 1.2kN/m^2 dead load. Type of the load as area load
  3. Next we have to apply the brick wall load on the different floor levels
  4. To apply the brick wall load go to load select UDL and enter the value 15.2kN/m for ground floor and select all the beams, loads will be appliedAns 2
  5. Aim:- To calculate the live load and apply it on model

Live loads for the industrial building

    1. Stair case=5kN/m^2
    2. Workshop=5 kN/m^2
    3. Office=3kN/m^2
    4. Corridor=5kN/m^@
    5. Meeting room=5kN/m^2
    6. Store room=5kN/m^2
    7. Toilet=2 kN/m^2
    8. Canteen=3 kN/m^2
    9. Equipment=5kN/m^2

These all live loads are from IS 875 part2 they will be applied on the floors apply the loads on all the floors

    1. Refer to the plan and as per plan add the live loads on the floors bty editing in the property window

      Ans 3:-

AIM:-to generate the a calculation for 5T crane

      Solution:

      Crane capacity =50kN

      Weight of trolley=10kN

Centre to centre distance of wheel=10 m

      Wheel base=2 m

      Number of wheels =4

Maximum point of load on crane=crane capacity+weight of trolley

      =50+10=60kN

      Self weight of crane =40KN

Udl= self weight of crane/ distance between gantry rails=40/14=2.89kN
