swing arm length
Question:
1.Consider two suspension geometries – one with long virtual swing arms in both front and side view and the other with shorter swing arms. In which case would you expect a higher variation of front and side view parameters?
Answer:
Suspension geometry with shorter swing arm would show higher variation of front and side view parameters.
This is mainly because as the wheels starts heaving up and down during jounce and rebound of suspension, the swing arm traverse a circular path.
So longer the Front View Swing Arm(FVSA), smaller will be the arc traversed by swing arm. This in turn leads to smaller camber gain.
But in case of shorter swing arm, arc traversed will more which will give larger camber gain.
This can be explained better with the expression below:
Linear Camber Gain Coefficient = arctan(1/FVSA)
