1, Calculate the following geometric parameters.(18 points)
- Caster.
- Mechanical trail.
- Kingpin inclination Angle.
- Kingpin longitudinal offset.
- Scrub radius
- Kingpin lateral offset or spindle length
2, If the pneumatic trail is 25 mm and lateral force is 2000N, Calculate the restoring moment acting at the point where kingpin intersects the ground in side view.(1 point)
3, Suggest a hardpoint recommendation to change sign of scrub radius that you calculated.(1 point)
Answer:
1-
- Rough sketch:
-
- The Restoring moment for a 2000N lateral load and 25mm pneumatic trail would be:
Restoring moment = lateral load * (pneumatic trail+Mechanical trail).
= 2000 * (25+9.411)
= 68822 N/mm
- In order to reverse the sign of the scrub radius move the LCA_knuckle_ball_joint position 30mm or greater towards the wheel in negative y direction, This creates a greater slope which intersects the wheel center-line(from front view) and creating a scrub radius of the opposite sign.
