Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.

Also, assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code.

ans:

aim:

  • to design g+1 floor residential plan, according to vaatu shastra, and list down the names of structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.
  • to calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code by assuming the size of structural drawings(column, beam, slab etc.,)

objective of the project:

  • in engineering, a floor plan is a drawing to scale showing a view from above, of the relationships between rooms, spaces, traffic patterns, and other physical features at one level of a structure. dimensions are usually drawn between the walls to specify room sizes and wall lengths. floor plans may include notes for construction to specify finishes, comnstruction methods, or symbols for electricity.
  • vaastu shastra is to bring perfect balance and harmony between nature, people and their place of living and wrorking, thereby the paving way for peace, prosperity, health and happiness to everyone
  • procedure:

vaastu shastra:

Your home may not be entirely Vastu compliant. But you may start by eliminating negative energies and correcting Vastu Doshas (architectural and lifestyle flaws).

Our nature is abundant with powerhouses of energy sources like the sun, wind, moon, water, earth and fire. The effect of sunrays, flow of winds, pull of earth's magnetic fields and other such cosmic energies influence our lives in unfathomable ways.

We can make the most of nature's gifts and live a life replete with wealth, health, and success by learning to balance its five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space) around us. Vastu Shastra, an ancient science propounds such theories based on directions, architecture, astronomy, and even astrology! Stay with us, as we acquaint you with a few of its basic principles.

Significance of Eight Directions

We have four cardinal (North, South, East, and West) and four intercardinal directions (North-west, North-east, South-west, and South-east). Each direction signifies an aspect of life and is governed by various gods.
While North is the direction for wealth, south is for dharma. West and East are for prosperity and overall success.

Few Basic Principles of Vastu Shastra

Shape:

The rooms of your house should preferably be square or rectangular.

Room Basics:

Rooms should be airy, well lit, bright, and clean. This rule also extends to the corners of each room.

Home Centre:

The centre of the house should be an empty space.

Stairs and Furniture:

Heavy furniture (like almira etc.) should be kept in the South-west direction. If you are planning to build a duplex house, building stairs in this direction is a good idea.

Water:

Avoid keeping plants and water features like water fountain, aquarium, painting depicting water etc. in the bedroom.

Dining Table:

Ensure that your dining space is near the kitchen and not the main door.

Mirror Placement:

Placing a mirror in the bedroom that reflects the sleeping couple is a strict no-no. If at all you place a mirror in the bedroom, ensure that the bed cannot be seen in it.

Try aligning your home with the directions and the elements of nature. And see the difference yourself!

Gateway (entrance) of the House:

Positive energy can be harnessed right at the entrance of your house with these tips:

  • Main door should be stronger and bigger than other doors in the house; it should preferably be made of teak wood.
  • Never keep the place outside your main door dark. Remember good energy is always associated with bright and cheery places.
  • Garbage bags, unwanted things, and shoes should be kept away from the main door. We don’t want visitors to cringe before entering your home.
  • Ensure that the main door opens inward. Also regularly oil its hinges to avoid creaky sounds.

Drawing Room:

For a place where the family spends most time together, drawing room should have:

  • An aquarium on the North or East wall for prosperity
  • A bright picture of sunrise in the southern wall
  • Shades of yellow, green, beige or blue on walls to infuse liveliness and vibrancy

Kitchen:

To improve the Vastu of your kitchen and ensure a healthy life for your family:
  • Keep the water sink away from the gas stove.
  • Place the fridge at the south-west corner of the kitchen.
  • Never let your kitchen face the washroom or share a common wall with it.

Bedroom:

Bedrooms are a place for rest and repose and should have soothing wall colors for a peaceful aura. Remember to:

  • Place the master bedroom in the South-west.
  • Never sleep with your head in the north.
  • Avoid overhanging beams in the room to enjoy good health.
  • Use solid wooden beds instead of hollow wrought-iron beds.

Study Room:

A place where your child needs his/her full concentration! Even if you do not have a separate study room, these basic dos need to be kept in mind:

  • Select a square or rectangular shape for the study table.
  • Place the table so that one need not face a blank wall or window.
  • Keep the table in the North-east, East, or West direction.
  • Hanging bookshelves are best avoided.

Conclusion:

Your home may not be entirely Vastu compliant. But you may start by eliminating negative energies and correcting Vastu Doshas (architectural and lifestyle flaws).

assumed dimensions of structural elements:

all columns are 300mm*300mm

all beams are 300mm*450mm

slab thickness 125mm

the height of he wall 4.5m

external wall thickness 230mm

internal wall thickness 150mm

indian standard codes which i am going to use for load calculations:

IS456:2000, revised 2016 for reinforced concrete structures

IS875:1987, REVISED 1987 (PART 1) for dead load

IS875:1987, REVISED 1987 (PART 1) for dead load

IS875:1987, REVISED 1987 (PART 1) for dead load

dead load calculation:

1. column (300*300)

dead load of column = self weight of column

column height = height of wall + slab thickness = 4.5+0.125 = 4.625m

column size = 300*300*4625mm^3 = 0.3*0.3*4.625 m^3

unit weight of concrete (RCC) = 25 KN/m^3

dead load of column = total vol of concrete * unit weight of concrete = 0.3*0.3*4.625*25

self weight of the column = dead load of the column = 10.41 KN

AS per design, 12 no of columns provided

2. beam (300*450)

dead load of the beam = self weight of the beam

beam size = 300*450 mm^2 = 0.3*0.45 m^2

we will calculate load in the form of UDL

unit weight of concrete (RCC) = 25KN/m^3

dead load of the beam = beam size * unit weight of concrete = 0.3* 0.45*0.25

self weight of beam = dead load of beam = 3.38 KN/m

3.exterior wall load on beam:

wall load on beam = dead load on wall

height of the wall = 4.5m

thickness of the exterior wall = 230mm = 0.23m

unit weight of brick wall = 20 KN/m^3

dead load of wall = (height of the wall * thickness of the exterior wall) * unit weight of brick wall = 4.5*0.23*20

exterior wall load on beam = 20.7 KN/m

4. interior wall load on beam:

wall load on beam = dead load on wall

height of the wall = 4.5m

thickness of the exterior wall = 150mm = 0.15m

unit weight of brick wall = 20 KN/m^3

dead load of wall = (height of the wall * thickness of the interior wall) * unit weight of brick wall = 4.5*0.15*20

interior wall load on beam = 13.5 KN/m

5. self weight of slab:

self weight of slab= dead load of slab

thickness of slab = 125mm = 0.125m

self weight of RCC slab= thickness of slab * unit weight of RCC = 0.125*25 = 3.125 KN/m^2

6. self weigth of ceiling 0.25 KN/m^2 (as per IS875 part 1)

7. self weight of roofing 0.83 KN/m^2 (as per IS875 part 1)

8. floor finish = 1 KN/m^2

live load calculation:

1. living room = 2 KN/m^2

2.kitchen = 2 KN/m^2

3. bedroom = 2 KN/m^2

4. toilet = 2 KN/m^2

5. store room= 3 KN/m^2

6.dinning room = 2 KN/m^2

wind load:

  • wind load can be considered when the building heigt exceeds 10m
  • here the building height is less than 10m hence wind load is ignored.=
