Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
Aim : To sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and calculating the loads accordingly as per the IS code.
Introduction :
Vastu shastra is the ancient Indian science of architecture and acts as a guideline to design home in the way that enhances positive energy.
Significance of eight directions:
- Four cardinal direction North,South,East and West
- Four intercardinal direction North-east,South-east,North-west and South-west
- Each direction signifies an aspect of life and is governed by various gods
- North-Wealth
- South-Dharma
- West and East-Overall prosperity
Basic principles of Vastu Shastra:
- Shape:Rooms should be preferably be square or rectangle

Auspecious directions as per Vastu Shastra:
- Kitchen: South-east is the best and North-east to be avoided
- Staircase: South-west is the best and North-east to be avoided
- Toilet: North-west is the best and North-east to be avoided
- Master Bedroom:South-west is the best
- Guest room:North-west is the best
- Living room: North-west is the best
- Over Head Tanks:West is the best
- Under ground Tanks: North-est is the best and South-west to be avoided
- Gate way of the house:
-Main entrance is not only the entry point for the family but also for energy
-Main door should ne stronger and bigger than other doors in the house and made of superior quality wood preferably teak wood
-Main door should be not be dark because good energy is associated with bright and cheery places
-Garbage bags ,unwanted things and shoes should be kept away from the main door
-Main door should open inward and avoid creaky sounds

-This part should be perfect and clutter-free
-The placement of kitchen,bathroom or piller/beam attracts negative energy
The names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction are ,
1.Center line drawing
2.Footing and column layout
3.Column schedule with reinforcement details
4.Plinth beam layout and reinforcement details
5.First floor column layout and reinforcememt details
6.First floor beam layout and reinforcement details
7.Lift pit drawings
Lets assume there will be 16 columns with same dimensions which is Length*breadth*Height=0.3*0.3*4.5 in meter
Lets assume there will be Beam which is of same dimensions Length*breadth=0.3*0.45
We know that, unit weight of Concrete and brick wall are 25 KN/m^3 and 20 KN/m^3 respectively
Lets calculate the Dead load on the structure ,
a)Column=Length*breadth*Height=0.3*0.3*4.5
DL of column=0.3*0.3*4.5*25=10.125 KN
b)Beam=0.3*0.45
DL of beam=0.3*0.45*25=3.375 KN/m
c)Slab=Thickness of slab is 125 mm
DL of slab=0.125*25=3.125 KN/m^2
d)Brick wall=lets assume, wall thickness=230 mm
wall height=4.5 m
DL of wall=4.5*0.23*20=20.7 KN/m
Live load on the structure: As per the IS 875 part 2 ,for residential building;
Living/Dining=2 KN/m^2
Kitchen=2 KN/m^2
Bedroom=2 KN/m^2
Bathroom=2 KN/m^2
Corridor,staircase,roof=3 KN/m^2
Balconies=3 KN/m^2
Wind load for the structure:
As per the IS 875 part 3 no wind load is taken or considered below the height of 10m
So for height of 4.5 m building there will be no wind load is considered.
The plan of residential building is uploaded and the dimensions of the structaral elements are mentioned above,
Result: We have calculated the Dead load ,Live load and Wind load as per the IS codes and the building having G+1 structure which are replica to each other .
And also ther few drawings for construction of buildings which are mentioned above and also introduction about the Vaastu Shaastra
