Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
Aim: To prepare a residential plan for G+1 floor according to vaastu shastra and to calculate corresponding loads for components of house.
Introduction:
Vastu Shastra is an ancient guide for a positive home, right from the entrence of the house to the bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, outdoors and courtyard.
Auspicious directions as per vastu shastra:
Kitchen: South-east is the best, North-east to be avoided.
Staircase: South-west is best, north-east to be avoided.
Toilet: North-west is best, North-east to be avoided.
Master bedroom: South-west is preferred.
Guest room: North-east is preferred.
Living room: North-west is preferred.
Overhead tanks: Waste is preferred.
Underground tanks: North-east is preferred, south-west to be avoided.
Gateway (enterance) of the house:
Positive energy can be attached to the right entrance of the house.
Main entrance is not only the entry point for the family but also for the energy.
Main door should be stronger and bigger than the other doors in the house and made of superior quality wood such as tak wook.
Main door should not be dark because good energy is associated with bright and cheery places.
Garbage bags, unwanted things and shoes should be kept away from the main door.
Main door should open inward and avoid creaky sounds.
PROCEDURE:
Assumed diamension of other utilitues in the home:
- Thickness of external walls - 230mm
- Dimensions of each column - 300mm*300mm
- Dimensions of each beam - 300mm*450mm
- Height of each floor- 3m
- Thickness of slab - 250mm
- Thickness of internal wall - 150mm
- Dimenssion of main door - 1.5m*2.5m
- Dimensions of internal doors - 1.4m*2m
- Dimension of window in living room - 3m*1.5m
- Dimension of window in bedroom - 1m*1.5m
- Dimensionof ventilator in bathroom - 0.5m*0.3m
The General structural drawings that are prepared are as follows:-
- General notes and typical sections.
- Foundation excavation plan and footing sections.
- Ground floor column plan and column sections.
- Ground floor plinth beam plan and plinth beam sections.
- Ground floor beam plan and beamsections.
- Ground floor slab top and bottom rebar detail.
- Ground floor slab section.
- First floor beam plan and beam section.
- First floor slab top and bottom rebar detail.
- First floor slab section.
- Roof parapet wall plan
- Overhead water tank.
Load calculation for the residensial plan components:-
1. Dead load calculations:
COLUMNS:
Total no. of columns on the design are 15
The total load of each column is calculated from the total volume of column and unit weight of concrete.
the height of column from ground = slab thickness *2 + Height of each floor*2
= 0.25*2+3*2
= 6.5m
Size of column is 0.3m*0.3m
The volume of each column is 0.3*0.3*6.5 = 0.585m^3
Unit weight of reinforced concrete = 25 KN/m^3
Dead load due tocolumn = 25*0.585 = 14.625Kn
BEAMS:
the dead load of the beamis calculated from the cross sectional area and unit weight of concrete and the load is calculated in KN/m
The dimensions of beam are 0.3m*0.45m
Weight of concrete = 25 Kn/m^3
Dead load due to beam = 25*0.3*0.45 = 3.375KN/m
WALLS:
The dead load of the wall is calculated from the cross sectional area of the brick wall and unit weight of brick wall and the load is calculated in KN/m
Thickness of external wall considered here is 230mm i.e 0.23m
Thickness of internal wall considered here is 150mm i.e 0.15m
Height of each wall is 3m
Unit weight of brick is 20kn/m^3
Dead load due to external wall = 20*0.23*3 = 13.8 KN/m
Dead load due to internal wall = 20*0.15*3 = 9 KN/m
Wall opening should be remoed when total load is being calculated
BRICK:
The standard dimension of brick is given as 190mm*90mm*90mm
The weight of standard brick is 18.63 N
Dead load of brick = 0.0186 KN
SLAB:
The dead load of the slab is calculated from the thickness of slab and unit weight of reinforced concrete and the load is calculated in KN/m^2
Thickness of slab considered as 250mm or 0.25m
Unit weight of concrete = 25 KN/m^3
Dead load of slab per m^2 = 25*0.25*1*1 = 6.25 KN/m^3
2.Live load calculation
As per table 1 of IS-875 part 2, for residential building:
- Living - 2KN/m^2
- Kitchen - 2KN/m^2
- Bedroom - 2KN/m^2
- Bathroom - 2KN/m^2
- Puja room - 2KN/M^2
- Terrace - 3 KN/m^2
3. Wind load calculation:
The house height is 6.5m
The wind load acts on those building whose height is more than 10m
Therefore 6.5m is less than 10m so that the wind load should not acts on this building.
RESULT:
The residensial plan for G+1 is made on paper. the plan consists of 2 bedroom, 1 kitchen, 1 Hall and 2 toilets.
