SIMULINK STATE CONTROL LOGIC FOR WASHING MACHINE AND GEAR SHIFTING

AIM:

TO IMPLEMENT CONTROL LOGIC IN SIMULINK SHOWING A STATE FLOW PROCESS FOR WASHING MACHINE AND GEAR TRANSMISSION

OBJECTIVES:

1) Generate a Simulink model for washing machine at various state conditions

2) Generate a Simulink model for gear shift transmission at various speed level

SIMULINK MODEL-1: CONTROL LOGIC OF WASHING MACHINE AT VARIOUS STATES

Principle: It is a machine which is capable of handling various tasks like washing, rinsing, drying, soaking within short period of time. All the task performed by the machine is based on centrifugation. It is a separation process which uses centrifugal force to promote accelerated settling of particles in solid-liquid mixture.

Fig.1. Washing Machine

GIVEN DATA:

The different states for washing machines

a. Soaking – 200 secs (0-200secs)

b. Washing – 100 secs (200-300secs)

c. Rinsing – 20 secs (300-320secs)

d. Drying – 50 secs (320-370secs)

e. Completed

MODEL:

SUBSYSTEM:

STATE FLOW:

BLOCKS USED IN THE MODEL:

a. Constant – Power and water supply

b. Slider switch – Turns the machine On and Off

c. Lamp – It indicates the signal

d. State flow – Control logic

e. Muff – Converge the signal for display

f. Display – To show the output signal

PROCESS EXPLANATION:

a. The power and water supplied to machine indicates ON and OFF of the machine which is defined by constant value 0 and 1.

b. The slider switch and lamp are activated accordingly showing the conditions of supply of water and power to the machine.

c. The signals proceed with the given state flow logic, if the value displayed is 1 then power and water are supplied to the machine and if the values are 0 and 1 then machine will not start the process as one of the sorce is OFF.

d. When both power and water are 1 then the soaking process start and run for 200 secs after which washing starts.

e. The rinsing starts after 300 secs, after which drying process starts for which water supply is cut off.

f. After completing all the tasks, the machine turns OFF after 370 secs.

g. The finish lamp is green indicating the process is completed.

h. For all the different process or states of the machine, lamp indicates green for working and red for not working. This gives the user a better idea about current process inside the machine.

DIFFERENT STATES OF MODEL:

1) SOAKING

CONCLUSION: AFTER SUPPLYING THE POWER AND WATER TO THE MACHINE, THE SOAKING PROCESS CONTINUOUS FOR 200secs, THUS SHOWING GREEN LAMP AS AN 'ON STATE' AND DISPLAYING 1 INDICATING SOAKING PROCESS IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN THE WASHING MACHINE.

2) WASHING

CONCLUSION: AFTER SOAKING PROCESS (200secs), THE WASHING PROCESS CONTINUOUS FOR 100secs, THUS SHOWING GREEN LAMP AS AN 'ON STATE' AND DISPLAYING 1 INDICATING WASHING PROCESS IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN THE WASHING MACHINE.

3) RINSING

CONCLUSION: AFTER WASHING PROCESS (300secs), THE RINSING PROCESS CONTINUOUS FOR 20secs, THUS SHOWING GREEN LAMP AS AN 'ON STATE' AND DISPLAYING 1 INDICATING RINSING PROCESS IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN THE WASHING MACHINE.

4) DRYING

CONCLUSION: AFTER RINSING PROCESS (320secs), THE DRYING CONTINUOUS FOR 50secs, THUS SHOWING GREEN LAMP AS AN 'ON STATE' AND DISPLAYING 1 INDICATING DRYING PROCESS IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN THE WASHING MACHINE.

5) COMPLETED

CONCLUSION: AFTER DRYING PROCESS (370secs), THE WASHING MACHINE STOPS. SHOWING GREEN LAMP AS AN 'ON STATE' AND DISPLAYING 1, INDICATING THAT ALL THE PROCESS HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT IN THE WASHING MACHINE SUCCESSFULLY.

SIMULINK MODEL-2: CONTROL LOGIC OF GEAR SHIFT TRANSMISSION FOR VARYING SPEED LEVELS

Principle: When we push the shifter sleeve towards the desired gear, the gear locks onto the main shaft and rotates it. Thus, the main shaft rotates at the speed of the engaged gear and provides the output as per the gear’s ratio. Shifting of gear simply means going from one gear to another by sliding or clicking the shifter. Downshifting means going to a lower gear i.e decreasing the speed, and upshifting means going to a higher gear i.e increasing the speed.

Fig.2. Gear shifting manual transmission

GIVEN DATA:

a. 1st gear - (0-15Kmph)

b. 2nd gear - (15-25Kmph)

c. 3rd gear - (25-40Kmph)

d. 4th gear - (40-60Kmph)

e. 5th gear - (greater than 60Kmph)

MODEL:

STATE FLOW:

BLOCKS USED IN THE MODEL:

a. Constant – To multiply with slider gain

b. Slider gain – Act as throttle to increase the speed

c. Lamp – For indicating gear number

d. State Flow – Gear shifting logic

e. Scope – For the graph of speed vs gear shift

f. Custom gauge – For representing speedometer of the vehicle

PROCESS EXPLANATION:

a. The initial position of slider is at 0.

b. When we increase the speed, the input is given to state flow chart where it checks the input speed and displays the gear number.

c. According to given data, the first gear speed range is (0-15Kmph).

d. The second gear speed range is (15-25Kmph).

e. The third gear speed range is (25-40Kmph).

f. The fourth gear speed range is (40-60Kmph).

g. The fifth gear speed range is (greater than 60Kmph).

h. The increase and decrease in the speed can be seen in the speedometer.

i. The speed is decreased by downshifting of gear.

GEAR SHIFTING MODELS AT VARIOUS SPEED LEVELS:

1) 1st GEAR

From 0-16kmph, 1st gear is activated.

2) 2nd GEAR

Above 16kmph till 25kmph, 2nd gear is activated.

3) 3rd GEAR

Above 26kmph till 40kmph, 3rd gear is activated.

4) 4th GEAR

Above 40kmph till 60kmph, 4th gear is activated.

5) 5th GEAR

Above 61kmph, 5th gear is activated.

OUTPUT:

CONCLUSION: FROM THE ABOVE OUTPUT WE CAN CONCLUDE THAT THE GEARS SHIFT TAKE PLACE ACCORDING TO THE SPEED INPUT.
