Section Modulus calculation and optimization

For Hood Design
Section modules:

Section modulus is the ratio of bending to the farthest fiber from neutral axis, or it is the measure of the strength of
the beam.

Ratio of Area Moment of Inertia to the Distance from the Neutral Axis to the Point where the Bending Normal Stress is
determined.

Section modulus (S) = I/Y

I = Moment of inertia of structure.

Y = Distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.

Case 1:

For my hood design the moment of inertia values are,

Maximum moment of inertia = 4.812875561e+06[mmA4]
Minimum moment of inertia = 1.456975431e-F04[mmA4] = 4.3604[mmA4]
The total distance of the hood 'I = 944.23 mm
Distance between the neutral axis to the extreme end = (944.23/2) = 472.115 mm
To find section modulus of HOOD section, we have to calculate
S= 4.3604/472.115
= 0.0092 mrnA3

Case 2:

In order to increase the resistance to bonding of HOOD, We have to make an improvement in section modulus of
HOOD

So I have made some changes in my HOOD design and its section is given as follows,

Maximum moment of inertia = 4.813874623e-F06[mmA4]
Minimum moment of inertia = 1.492639116e-F04[nnmA4] = 4.4574[mnnA4]
To find section modulus of new HOOD section, we have to calculate
S = 4.4574/472.115
= 0.0094 mmA3
From the above calculations, I got an improvement in section modulus for about 0.0094 mm3
so that I also made an improvement in resistance to bending of my HOOD design.
