Section Modulus calculation and optimization

SECTION MODULUS

Section modulus is measuring a strength of section area of an object an netural axis. the representing symbol is S

FORMULA S=I/Y

where I is moment of inertia

Y is distance from netural axis

section modulus calculations are used to find how much of resistence defanding on a material . It will be chage material to material based on strength of material . always the moment of inertia is directly propostional to strenth of the material. strength of material based on sectional area. if material have more momenth of inertia it can defanding more external load.

I max 8.446x10^5 mm^4

I min 3.612x10^10^3 mm^4

values taken from NX software

netural axis disstence = 488.82

=488.2/2

=244.1 mm

Section modulus S = I max/Y

= 8.446x10^5/ 244.1

=3.4x10^3 mm^3 (maximum srength)

Section modulus S =I min / Y

=3.612x10^3/ 244.1

=0.014x10^3 mm^3( minimum strength)

CONCLUSTION

The strength of material is directly propostional to moment of inertia.
