Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section modulus is defined as a ratio of the moment of inertia to the distance between neutral axis to the extreme end of the object

S= I/Y

Where I = Moment of inertia

y= distance between neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.

By taking section of a hood to caluclate the section modulus

at first without changing the crossection clauclated the moment of inertia taking minimum

by projesting the curve inside the to caluclate the section modulus it has to be closed so the sketch is closed by using splines and trim operation.

I=1.46x10^4mm^4

y=12.5mm

y value is caluclated by drawing a three point circle by taking extreme end of the two curves the measured value is divided by 2 to get the neutral axis distance.

we caluclaed section modulus = (1.46x10^4)/(440)

s=1168mm^3.

modifying the section by Varying the sketch using sketch operation to attai it,

caluclating the section modulus

initial sketch is taken as reference by offseting the curves by 0.5 downside to create a another crossection area

later these curves are projected by 2d project on the another sketch.

inertia is caluclated by analyside using section analysis

I=1.48x10^4mm^4

y=12mm

the centere distance is caluclated by the measure option from one end to another end. and the length value is divided into half to have the neutral axis these created by same method mentioned above

caluclated value of section modulus

s=1216.6mm^3

by modifying the crossection by offseting the curve with 0.5mm the strength of hood is increased.
