Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Report On Section Modulus

previously designed structure is a hood, let's see the strength of the hood, optimise the design then check the bending strength and finally calculate the section modulus. Section Modulus Section Modulus is a geometric property used to calculate the bending stresses in a structural member. Mathematically, It is defined as the ratio of the moment of inertia of a section about its centroidal axis and to the distance of the extreme layer from the neutral axis. First Design Study to study the design properly need to intersect the design from the middle zone and then complete the section modulus.

now, let's calculate the section modulus and see the results Moment of inertia.

Moment of inertia(max) = 4.265×10^7×mm^4

Moment of inertia(min) = 1.342×10^4×mm^4

Y=488.532/2=244.266 mm

S=I/Y S=1.342×10^4/244.266= 54.940 mm^4

INCREASING OF .5MM

After optimising the design increase the moment of inertia the results and new study

Moment of inertia(max) = 4.232×10^7mm^4

Moment of inertia(min) = 1.336×10^4mm^4

Y=488.532/2=244.266 mm

S=I/Y

S=1.336×10^5/244.266= 546.94mm^4

CONCLUSION: moment of inertia is increased without changing the Y and also increased the strength
