Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Fig 1:- Area Moment of Inertia(Unchanged area) I is 5.465*e5 mm4

Fig 2:- Area moment of Inertia (Changed Area) I is 5.786*e5 mm4

Fig 3:- Distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object (Y) is 478.012/2= 239.006mm

SECTION MODULUS-

It is the ratio of the area moment of inertia to the distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.

Section modulus is the direct measure of the strength of the steel. Bending a steel section that has a larger section modulus than another will be stronger and harder to bend. Section modulus is a geometric property for a given cross-section used in the design of flexural members.

The Section Modulus with unchanged area is S= (5.465*e5 mm4)/(239.006)= 2.2865*e3 mm3

The Section Modulus with unchanged area is S= (5.786*e5 mm4)/(239.006)= 2.4208*e3 mm3
