Section Modulus calculation and optimization
SECTION MODULUS CALCULATION AND OPTIMIZATION
AIM:- calculate the section modulus by useing the section from my hood design
SECTION MODULUS
Section modulus is the ratio of the total moment resisted by the section to the stress in the extreme fibre. Section modulus give us idea about how much of load given structure can withstand.If the section modulus increase the moment of resistance also increase hence its load bearing capacity increased
S=I/y
S = Section Modulus
I = moment of inertia
y = Distance between the neutral aaxis and the extreme end of the object
The unit of the section modulus is in.3(mm3)

SECTION MODULUS CALCULATION OF THE HOOD DESIGN
CASE :- 1

Moment of interia (max) =9.93255*10^4 mm^4
Moment of interia (min) =3.24352*10^4 mm^4

Value of the y = 908.7
Section modulus = Moment of interia(min) / y
s = 3.24352*10^4 / 908.7
s = 35.71mm^3
CASE :- 2

Moment of interia (max) = 9.78830*10^4 mm^4
Moment of interia (min) = 3.34326*10^4 mm^4
value of the y = 908.7
Section modulus = moment of interia (min ) / y
s = 3.34326*10^4 / 908.7
s =36.79 mm^3

FINAL RESULT : Thus the final result of the car hood increased by increaseing the area of moment of inetria
Conclusion :
Section modulus is dirtectly depent upon the area of moment of interia and the distance from the neutral axis . Hence section modulus is increased by area of moment of interia of given part . We can improve the area of moment by increase the gap between the inner pannel and outer paannel
