FENDER DESIGN - WHEEL ARC CALCULATION

AIM:- Caculate the wheel arc area of fender and prove whether the car will pass or not according to the European standard

INTRODUCTION

FENDER

fender is major part of vehicle thats cover the wheel and also prevent the sand, mud, rocks, liquid from being thrown from the roating tire and they protect the passenger, pedestrians and other cars from stones,mud,sand and other problems faced by the speedy roating tires

WHEEL ARCH

• Its curved part of the fender situvated above the wheels
• Its prevents pedestrians issues and aslo protect the cabins from the mud,stones,liquid
• The wheel arch design changed according to their country requlations

JAPAN REGULATIONS

• The clearance "L" for tire,hub,cap and fender is to measured with the area k and create clearance check chart to validate
• The value of "L" should be more than 5mm at all positions
• Wheel guard requirment :- The value of "A" should be greater than 5mm at angle 30 degree and 50 degreefrom the center of the vertical axis of the vehicle

EUROPEAN REGULATIONS

• The clearance "L" should be measured at sections SA-SA,SB-SB,SC-SC,SD-SD,SE-SE and prepare chart to validate
• At all the sections the value of "L " should be greater than 10mm to achieve the European standrds
• The Wheel guard requirment:- The value of A should be more 5mm at line 30 degree and 50 degree from the center vertical axis of the wheel

US REGULATIONS

• The clearance "L" should be checked at the postions from the -100 degree to 100 degree
• The value of "L" should be more than 5mm to pass
• The wheel guard requirment :- The value of 'A' should be more than 5mm at lines 30 degree and 50 degree from the center of the vertical axis of the wheel

MEASURING THE CLEARANCE VALUE "L"

the clearance distance "L" is calculated at points SA-SA,SB-SB,SC-SC,SD-SD,SE-SE which would be greater than or equal to 10mm

• L value of SA-SA

L value =9.94

• L value of SB-SB

L value = 10.00

• L value of SC-SC

L value = 0.11

• L value of SD=SD

L value = 3.37

• L value of SE=SE

L value=5.99

MEASURING THE CLEARANCE VALUE "A" FOR WHEEL GUARD REQUIRMENT

• clearance value at 30 degree line SB

A=46.13

• Clearance value at 50 degree line SC

A value = 38.66

From above reults we can conclude that this fender is failed according to the European standrads.As the minium clearance distance greater than the 10mm and the pedestrian safty is 10mm and this desgin not meet the requirment
