Complete solidworks course-Assembly of Yacht Model.
Objective
The main objective of the course is to enhance our modelling skills that is increasing the accuracy of a sketch further bringing precision to surface modelling and render the final assembly.
Introduction
Our main aim is to design predator yacht, for that we need to design individual parts as shown in the chart after that, we would assemble and render the required yatch
Design Methodology
Description
(1.) Extruded Boss
Extruded boss is mainly used to convert a 2D sketch to 3-dimensional object by elongating it normal to the
2-dimensional sketch, in order to perform an extrude command it is required to have a closed today schedule
(2.) Circular Pattern
As the name suggests the command is mainly used to create circular patterns.
In short circular pattern is used to create multiple instances of one or more features that we can space uniformly around an axis.
The main requirement to perform the command is to have a feature, the path and the number of times the pattern needs to be repeated.
(3.) Cut Extrude
Cut extrude command is just opposite to the extruded boss command
i.e, the function removes the required extrusion which lies in the path perpendicular to the sketch plane.
To perform the command we are required to create a closed sketch and state the length of path to be covered perpendicular to the sketch.
(4.) Revolve Command
Revolve command basically is a axis symmetric command which let's us create bodies by the help of revolving a closed
sketch about an axis. Not only that, but you can also create helical objects by adding height to your revolved sketch or face.
(5.) Fillet
Fillets helps create rounded faces it helps curve out sharp edges . The fillet menu lets us customize the radius of the curve ,
it can even provide options to create different types of fillets.
(6.) Chamfer
The chamfer is also used to remove sharp edges, the only difference between
Fillet and chamfer is that fillet produces curves while chamfer creates sloped edges.
(7.) Sweep
Sweep function helps in producing 3 dimensional surface or solid with the help of the
sketch to be swept and the path as shown.Swept boss is one of the useful features which
help to sweeps a closed profile through an open or closed path.
(8.) Dome
As the name suggests dome command helps to create dome by selecting a face.
The Dome can be created inward or outward.
(9.) Mirror
Mirror command helps mirror , bodies , fillets and many other commands, about a plane .
Mirror command is a handy tool to make symmetric bodies . Just select an entity and the plane .
The above image shows how the feature works
(10.) Projection curve
It allows the user to create curves by projecting the selected curves onto the face of the user-defined
solid or surface geometry. Projected curve is used to create a three dimensional curve using two 2 dimensional
sketches in different planes.
(11.) Reference geometry- Plane
Reference Plane help you create planes as per requirement. Reference planes are helpful when it is required to create a sketch
in a particular position. The main requirement is to assign refernces , there are maximum three allowable references.
(12.) Shell
The main purpose of the shell command is to produce shell , i.e, converting solid objects to hollow, here shell command is
used to hollow out the solid body which help it provide a shape of a horn
(13.) Surface Loft
Surface loft is a common and very important feature in SolidWorks it helps create surfaces by selecting profiles and guide curves, and
it helps with complex surface modelling tasks. As shown above, surface loft is being used to create a surface in the hull part of the yacht.
(14.) Surface Trim
Surface trim is used to exclude unwanted part off a surface, as shown in the figure , the Violet potion
denotes the selected portion and by choosing the option "remove selections", it would remove the choosen area.
To use the command we are required with trim tool in the feature that needs to be trimmed.
(15.) Surface Extrude
Surface extrude is very similar boss extrude, the main difference between the surface and the Boss extrude is that, in
surface extrude a two dimensional sketch is converted to three dimensional surface and in boss extrude 3-dimensional solid is formed.
To perform the command we are required with a sketch and direction as shown in the figure.
(16.) Surface Knit
The Knit Surface tool is used to combine two or more faces and surfaces into one.
It helps us create a solid body when the knit surfaces form a closed volume, or can be left as a surface body.
(17.) Surface Sweep
(18.) Surface Fill
Surface fill command is mainly used to create a surface by choosing patch boundaries.
As shown in the above figure, surface is being created by selecting the boundaries
(19.) Ruled Surface
The Ruled Surface command creates surfaces that extend out in a specified direction from selected edges.
(20.) Delete Face
As the name suggests delete face command is mainly used to delete the faces which are not required.
As shown in the figure to delete the faces simply select them
(21.) Linear pattern
Linear pattern helps us create a selected feature repeat finite times in linear order.
To create a linear pattern we are required to mention the direction and the features that are required to repeat the pattern.
The above image shows linear pattern of the yacht Finn system.
HULL PART
Hull is the watertight body of yacht. The hull may open at the top (such as a dinghy), or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck.
Atop the deck is a superstructure, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The hull is made of a wooden deck.
In making of the part , most of the surface tools were used such as surface extrude, trim, fill, etc.
First the surfaces were made , after having a closed and well merged body , it was converted into a solid body.
At last , the part appearance was provided with few decals.
SUPER STRUCTURE
Super structure is basically the portion above the hull part on the deck, This structure has one of the most complex design.
It is time consuming and requires a lot of precision. To make the stucture , mainly surface commands were used .
We have to make sure that the surfaces are knitted properly and there should not be any space between two surfaces.
After all these precautions we can have perfect solid body. At last, the Superstructure is provided with perfect appearance and few decals.
SEATS
-FRONT
-MIDDLE
-REAR
As per the above photographs , there are total three seats on the yacht i.e., the front, rear and the middle seats.
The front seats are made with the help to surface commands and then are mirrored , the rear seat has been made
in the same way as that of the front , but here the use to 3D sketch is made to make that red flag.
The middle seats are made out of solids by providing with many fillets to give it the perfect look.
RADARMAST
Radar mast is a water resistant equipment mounted on the superstructure of the yacht.
The main task of the mast is to provide navigation in the waters and helps to communicate with nearby
ships or the harbour. Basically it has a radar based system, horn, antenna and lights.
The part is made with normal solid modelling features and then is mirrored to make the work piece symmetric.
RADAR
RADAR-Radio Detection And Ranging . Radars are now used to help navigate ships in fog. The basic principle behind
radar is simple , extremely short bursts of radio energy are transmitted, reflected off a target and then returned as an echo.
Radar makes use of a phenomenon we have all observed, that of the Echo principle. This part is made using simple solid modelling.
PROPELLER
As the name suggests propeller is the equipment used to propel things ahead. Propellers in ships and yachts
help them move in water, they are directly connected to the engine shaft . The part is designed with simple solid modelling and
with the help of circular pattern command , the blades are arranged in the required order.
