Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

1. RADAR MAST

2. YACHT ASSEMBLY

TITLE: MODELLING & ASSEMBLING OF YACHT

OBJECTIVE:

To model a Yacht by drafting the individual models using Solidworks and assembling all the models

INTRODUCTION:

A yacht is a craft used for pleasure and sport. The name comes from the Dutch word jaght, which translates as ‘hunter’, a fast, light sailing vessel used in the past by the nation’s navy to chase pirates and other ne’er do wells. When the English King Charles the Second was carried by ‘jacht’ from the Netherlands back home, in 1660, the word soon came to mean a vessel in which important people were carried, not just any old boat. It is sailing or motorboat used for pleasure, navigation, or competition. There is no standard definition, so the term is applied to ships that have a cabin with facilities suitable for overnight use. Unlike a boat, such a pleasure craft is likely to be at least 33 feet (10 m) in length and have been found to have good aesthetic qualities.

Other classifications for large yachts are commercial, carrying no more than 12 passengers, private, solely for the pleasure of the owner and guests, or by the flag, depending on the country under which it is registered. A superyacht (sometimes called megayacht) generally refers to any yacht (sailing or motorized) over 131 feet (40 m). Racing yachts are designed with an emphasis on performance over comfort. Charter yachts are run as a for-profit business. In 2020 there were over 15,000 yachts of sufficient size to require a professional crew.

DESIGN METHODOLOGY/ APPROACH:

DESCRIPTION:

The yacht mainly consists of the following parts.

1. Propellers

2. Radar

3. Hull

4. Superstructure

5. Garage door

6. Front seat

7. Middle seat

8. Rear seat

9. Radar mast

> Propellers:-

A propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, that, when rotated, performs an action that is similar to Archimedes' screw. It transforms rotational power into linear thrust by acting upon a working fluid, such as water or air.

Features Used: Revolve, Extrude cut, Loft, Circular pattern, and Fillet

> Radar:-

Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance (range), angle, or velocity of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. Radar is a rotating stick that sweeps the incoming microwave signals and the radar mast contains the system to produce the outgoing signals using the antenna & also a vital navigation component for safety at sea and near the shore. Captains need to be able to maneuver their ships within feet in the worst of conditions and to be able to navigate "blind" when there is no visibility at night or due to bad weather. In addition to vessel-based marine radars, in port or in harbor, shore-based vessel traffic service radar systems are used by harbormasters and coast guards to monitor and regulate ship movements in busy waters.

Features Used: Extrude, extrude cut, Mirror, Split line, and fillet

> Hull:-

A hull is the watertight body of a ship or boat. The hull may open at the top and it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. Atop the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast. The line where the hull meets the water surface is called the waterline.

Features Used: Project curve, Lofted surface, Boundary surface, Extruded Surface, Trim Surface, Swept boss, Extrude cut & Helix/spiral

> Superstructure:-

A superstructure is an extended construction of any building or platform that rises above the rest of the building or platform in a distinct manner. Thus, superstructure means adding construction to an already existing structure. In ships, this is the name given to the part of the ship that emerges from the deck.

Features Used: Ruled Surface, Surface Trim, surface feature, Knit surface, Swept boss, fillet, extrude boss, and chamfers

> Garage Door:-

The garage is the part that is extracted from the hull structure rear part & it is edited to fit in the hull a cover or door to the garage space created for storing or equipment or vehicles.

Features Used: Fillet, Extrude Cut, Mirror

> Front, Middle & Rear Seat:-

These front, middle and rear seats are the accessories of the Yacht for resting and sitting.

Features Used: Fillet, Extrude Cut, Mirror, Surface features

> Radar Mast:-

Marine radars are X band or S-band radars on ships, used to detect other ships and land obstacles, to provide bearing and distance for collision avoidance and navigation at sea. Radar is a vital navigation component for safety at sea and near the shore.

Features Used: Extrude Boss, Revolved, swept, shell, and mirror features

CONCLUSION:

Modeling & assembling of the Yacht is done using SOLIDWORKS. This project has really helped to enhance my skills in surface modeling and product design.

THERE ARE PROBLEMS OCCURRING IN MY SOLIDWORKS VISUALIZE. RENDERED IMAGES OF YACHTS IN SCENES ARE NOT ADDED DUE TO THIS ISSUE.
