Radar Mast & Final Assembly of Yacht

TITLE: Modeling and Assembly of Yacht

Objective: To model parts of the Yacht using SOLIDWORKS. Later assemble all the parts together, give the proper appearance (color & material) to the parts, adding decals, set up cameras, lights & environment, etc.

Introduction: This report is about 3D modeling of the Yacht using SOLIDWORKS. SOLIDWORKS is a 3D CAD software that is used to create 3D CAD models of different types of products which consist of solid modeling, Surfacing, Sheet Metal, Weldments, etc. The modeling of different parts of the bike is done using various features and given an appropriate appearance individually. Later all the parts are assembled together using proper mates. Then the assembly is rendered with realistic environment.

Design Methodology/Approach: It is explained by the following flowchart: -

FLOW CHART FOR YACHT MODELING

Description:

  • Propeller: A propeller is a rotating fan-like structure that is used to propel the yacht by using the power generated and transmitted by the main engine of the yacht.

Following are the tools and features used while designing:-

  • Sketch
  • Lines
  • Spline
  • Revolve
  • Loft
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet

Circular pattern

  • Constrains (Horizontal, Vertical, Tangent, Coincident, Pierce, etc)

Surface Sweep

2.Radar: Marine radars are X band or S band radars on ships, used to detect other ships and land obstacles, to provide bearing and distance for collision avoidance and navigation at sea.

  • Sketch
  • Line
  • Constrains (Horizontal, Vertical, Tangent, Coincident, Pierce, etc)
  • Surface Sweep
  • Rectangle
  • Boss extrudes
  • Fillet
  • Cut extrude
  • Sketch pattern
  • Split line
  • Surface Sweep

3.Hull: The hull of a ship is the most notable structural entity of the ship. To define the hull, it can be said that it is the watertight enclosure of the ship, which protects the cargo, machinery, and accommodation spaces of the ship from the weather, flooding, and structural damage.

  1. Front Seat, Middle Seat, Rear Seat: These seats are placed at the hull of the yacht for seating purpose of passengers and staffs.

  1. Superstructure: On water craft, the superstructure consists of the parts of the ship or a boat, including sailboats, fishing boats, passenger ships, and submarines, that project above her main deck. This does not usually include its mastsor any armament turrets.
  • Sketch
  • Line
  • Constrains (coincident, tangents, colinear. etc.)

  • Surface knit
  • Fillet
  • Ruled surface

  • Constrains (Horizontal, Vertical, Tangent, Coincident, Pierce, etc)
  • Surface Sweep

  1. Radar mast: Radar mast are electronic navigation instruments that use a rotating antenna to sweep a narrow beam of microwaves around the water surface surrounding the ship to the horizon, detecting targets by microwaves reflected from them, generating a picture of the ship's surroundings on a display screen.
  • Sketch
  • Line
  • Constrains (Horizontal, Vertical, Tangent, Coincident, Pierce, etc)
  • Surface Sweep
  • Boss extrudes
  • Fillet

  1. Assembly of Yacht

After modeling all the parts individually, all the parts are assembled together using appropriate mates.

Following are the different mates which are used for assembly: -

  • Coincident Mate
  • Concentric Mate

Giving different color to the parts: After complete assembly different color are applied to the different surface to make them look good. All the decals are applied to the individual parts separately.

applied final rendering,scene,light and camera

Conclusion: The design of the Yacht helped to understand various tools of SOLIDWORKS. We got to learn about Solid Modeling, Surfacing, how to handle splines, and many more other things. We have also learned about various mates used in the assembly of the yacht. And rendered the yacht with appropriate color, scene, decals and lights.
