Project - Speed Control of a Direct Current (DC) motor

Aim :

Speed Control of a Direct Current (DC) motor

Objective :

  • In this project, a Simulink model for the DC motor will be first developed per the schematic.
  • Use the Proportional, Integral, and Derivative (PID) control design knowledge gained in training to design, develop and test a controller to maintain a desired speed for the motor.

A mathematical model for DC motor:

ω(s)/Vs(s)=Kt/(J⋅La⋅s2+(J⋅Ra+B⋅La)⋅s+(B⋅Ra+kt⋅km))

PID Design and DC motor parameter and basic calculations :

Output when Kp = 38.3133, Kd = -2.8584 , Ki= 0.02;

output when its Ki = 10;

By changing the value of Kd = -1;

For modelling as usual take a clock and to workspace block for reference time. Design the PID controller and take step as reference and design the parameters according as previouly done prepare a script for all calculation and set the values of Kp Kd Ki and then desigh the dc motor use transfer function block for armature and inertia and use the gain blocks for the designing and use scope block to the output . Increasing the value of Ki gives the the result as shown above .

Conclusion - Hence, we maintain desired Speed For a Dc Motor.
