Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

QUESTION NO:1

Generator,Starter,Battery,Ignition Coil,Ignition Switch,Ammeter,Fuse Box,C-V Regulator,Lights,Fuel Guage etc.

QUESTION NO:2

i)GENERATOR:

Its usually called as dynamo.

Purpose:

Used to produce electricity from the roational motion of rotor.

Construction:

Consists of Field,Armature,Commutator and Earth Terminals.

Working:

When the Armature rotates the magnetic field linked with it changes causing to generate electricity.

Magnitude of current and voltage depend on the speed of Armature.

Commutator converts AC current generated into DC current directly in the generator.

ii)STARTER:

Its usually called as Starter Motor.

Purpose:

Its purpose is to crank the engine to initiate engines operation on its own.

Construction:

Consists of Solenoid,Armature,Commutator,Brushes,Pinion etc.

Working:

When turned on the solenoid pushes the starter gear to connect with Engine flywheel.

The supply from battery causes change in field magnitude in the field coils of the starter.

This change in field strength causes the armature to spin and rotate.

When the engine is finally started the solenoid disengages and the starter gear retracts from the engine flywheel.

iii)IGNITION COIL:

Purpose:

An ignition coil is an induction coil used in an automobile system that converts the cell voltage to a huge voltage.

Construction:

An ignition coil made up of a layered iron core surrounded by two copper coils.

Working:

The secondary coil when under change in flux and due to coil inductance causes the voltage to rise to higher magnitude

QUESTION NO:3

If the total load from the battery is 10A then the fuse rating must be around 13A~15A to avoid minor fluctuations in current supply to avoid detoriation of fuse soon.

QUESTION NO:4

Load=500W

Usual battery voltage for vehicles=12V

QUESTION NO:5

Elements connected in parallel to each other are

Head Light Lamp 1 and Head Light Lamp 2

Reason:

These are connected in parallel to provide continous and constant voltage and current even when failure of one lamp does not affect the other one.

QUESTION NO:6

Elements connected in series are

Gas Tank unit and Fuel Guage.

Reason:

These are connected in series so that the readings and measurement (supply) can cause change in current in the coils of the fuel gauge so that the reading in fuel guage can change according to quantity of fuek in the tank.
