Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

1. Answer

follwing are major components in above automotive wiring diagram:

1. Battery; 2. starter; 3.current and voltage regulator; 4. fuse; 5. ammeter; 6. Distributor; 7.ignition sw; 8. ignitian coil; 9.junction block; 10. generator; etc.

2.Answer

a) Battery:

An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices.

When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Historically the term "battery" specifically referred to a device composed of multiple cells; however, the usage has evolved to include devices composed of a single cell.

b) fuse:

A fuse commonly consists of a current-conducting strip or wire of easily fusible metal that melts, and thus interrupts the circuit of which it is a part, whenever that circuit is made to carry a current larger than that for which it is intended. The screw-plug fuse was once commonly used in domestic electrical systems.
c)ammeter:
An ammeter (abbreviation of Ampere meter) is a measuring instrument used to measure the current in a circuit. Electric currents are measured in amperes (A), hence the name. The ammeter is usually connected in series with the circuit in which the current is to be measured
3.answer
a fuse rated of 15A would be appropriate.
4.Anwer
battery capacity selection for 500W load
P=500W
V=12v
P=V*I
I=500/12 = 41.66A
Capacity(Q)= I*T (assume t=5 hrs.)
= 41.66*5 = 208.33Ah
12V 210 Ah battery if sufficient for 500W load.
5.Answer
Ignition switch, ignition coil & distrubutor are connected in series becasue of current continuty
6.Answer
Battery, starter and current and voltage regularor are connected in parallel connection beacuse of individual use of equipment.
