1. Upcoming Automotive Technologies

In the era of 21st century, automobiles have not just remained replacement of horses and are capable to provide more than transportation convenience, like sofa comfort, safety, quietness, reliability efficiency etc.

However the feasibility of these features is dependant upon number of technologies, some of them are mentioned below.

  1. 3D printing

This technology has revolutionised the manufacturing processes, so as to achieve manufacturing of complex designs with advanced features.

The examples of application of the same are as follows

  • Michelin Airless tyres

The complex alveolar (similar to lungs) structure of the tyres can be feasibly produced with 3D printing technology. These tyres are puncture-proof, as they are airless and are 100% sustainable. The airlessness of these tyres is likely to reduce the wastage of tyre material due to puncture, all over the world.

Moreover, area and weather specific tyres customisation options are also feasible with 3D printing technology.

  • Spherical tyres

In recent years Goodyear has introduced conceptual designs of 3D printed spherical tyres.

These tyres will revolutionise the directional control of vehicles and would significantly increase off-roading capability of the vehicle.

As a side effect, these tyres would further improve parking efficiency of the vehicle.

2. Adaptive technology

Revolution in computation technology and emergence of AI and improvements in sensor technology have merged to provide adaptive nature to the automobiles and have provided vision of self assisted driving and other adaptive features.

Some of the adaptive technology features are discussed below:

  • Active Suspension System

In near future, we will be able to enjoy the airplane comfort within a car, that is we would be able to carry out our chores, like reading and watching digital media comfortably within a car due to active suspension technology.

Due to the adaptive nature of suspension system, the car will be able to drive smoothly over the roads and potholes.

  • ABS Technology

ABS operates by preventing the wheels from locking up during braking, thereby maintaining tractive contact with the road surface and thus allowing the driver to maintain more control over the vehicle.

This technology is Praveen t in present vehicles and helps in delivering more control during sudden braking.
