Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack
10 cell lithium ion Battery Model
Construction of Model
- From the begining we should configure the tabble based battery for our requirement
- Turn on the soc and thermal port

We should provide some initiatal values for voltage , soc

- After configuring, we should multiply the cell by 10 and connect them in series
- Then we should discharge it using a controlled current source
- input to current source is 2 A using a ps constant block

- In order to sense the voltage we should connect it across the circuit in paralle
- In order to sense the current for SOC estimation, connect it in series to the circuit
SOC estimation
- We have opted the coulomb counting method for SOC estimation
- Here we are integrating current over time and applying the equation for SOC
SOC= 1- INTEGRAL( Instantaneous Current *Instantaneous time)/ (Current*total time)

- Connect the loop of thermal port to temperature source via convective heat source and temperature sensor

- Provide the temperature, area of contact

FINAL MODEL

Now lets run the simulation for 200 seconds
PLOT
We have 3 observation for 3 different values of area of contact for heat transfer
1)
A=0.01 m^2

Observation 1 : Here we can see that SOC is dropping from its maximum value , the current is constant, and the voltage is dropping, But the temperature is climbing very slowly for an Area of A= 0.01 m^2
2) A = 0.1 m^2

Observation 2: We have observed a difference in plot 4, that is the temperature is climbing fastly compared to previous observation
3) A=0.5 m^2

Observation 3: There is a transient developed in the temperature plot. That means the temperature is climbing and the battery is attaining the source temperature as soons as possible
So it is clear the heat transfer rate in a battery increases with increase in heat transfer area
CONCLUSION
We have succesfully simulated 10 cell series lithium ion battery model and analysed the themal effects of battery by changing the heat transfer rate but we havent observed any change in SOC, Voltage ,and current
