Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack

Que. 1)For a 10 cell series lithium ion battery model, simulate the thermal effects and compare life cycle performance at various temperatures, charge & discharge rates using MATLAB.

A lithium-ion battery is a type of rechargable batery in which lithium ion move from the negative electrode through an electrolite to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging. Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as the material at the positive electrode and typically graphite at the negative electrode.

Li-ion batteries have a high energy dencity no memory effect and low self discharge. Cells can be manufactured to either prioritize energy or power density. They can however be a safety hazard since they contain flammable electrolytes and if damaged or incorrectly charged can lead to explosions and fires.

A prototype Li-ion battery was developed by akira yoshino in 1985, based on earlier research by John goodenougf and koichi during the 1970s–1980s,and then a commercial Li-ion battery was developed by a sony and Asahi kasai  team led by Yoshio Nishi in 1991.Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used for portable elecronics and EV and are growing in popularity for military and aerospace applications.

This example shows how to simulate a battery pack consisting of multiple series-connected cells in an efficient manner. It also shows how a fault can be introduced into one of the cells to see the impact on battery performance and cell temperatures. For efficiency, identical series-connected cells are not just simply modeled by connecting cell models in series. Instead a single cell is used, and the terminal voltage scaled up by the number of cells. The fault is represented by changing the parameters for the Cell 10 Fault subsystem, reducing both capacity and open-circuit voltage, and increasing the resistance values.

Explanation:

for 10 cell lithium ion battery model we simulate thermal effects and compair life cycle performance  at temprature  chrge and discharge rate using matlab results.

1-4 cell are normal cell,5th cell is faulty cell,6-10 cells are normal cell as we simulating thermal effect on we give cycle charge/discharge profile to circuit the wave form we ca see abovr results.

at temp. 300K ,the 1-4 cells and 6-10 cells are near to 316K

but faulty 5th cell temperature goes to 330K and drive cycle shows which is cyclic charge/discharge drive cycle.
