Project 2 - 2D meshing on the instrumental Panel

AIM-Extraction of middle surface from given component using appropriate method and generating a 2D mesh for the same.

Objective-

  • Geometry Cleanup
  • Midsurface Extraction using appropriate method viz. Auto or Manual. and assigning relative thickness.
  • Generation of 2D Mesh as shell.
  • Converting the generated shell to solid and comparing with actual component.

Procedure-

  • Loading the given component from store location and visualy checking the surfaces.
  • After giving Topo the component is checked for Triple cons, Single cons & overalpped surfaces. There were some some triple cons and singled cons present in the geometry.
  • The triple cons are removed by deleting unwanted surfaces an realigning new faces. only the single cons present at the one edge are left unchanged as the geometry is a half part.
  • After measuring the geometry it has come to know it has varryng thickness so auto mid surfacing is not possible so the midsurfacing has to be done manually by offset command in Topo module.
  • Midsurface of base having 0.6mm thickness is generated by offset and middle commands from topo menu.
  • New PID is assigned to the midsurface with thickness assigned as 0.6mm.
  • Midsurface for Ribs & Dog Houses is taken seperately as it has different thickness using offset and middle option, the thickness for each is assigned with respective thickness.
  • the extracted midsurface is mesh using batch mesh command.
  • Mesh surface is checked for quality criteria and qualities are cleared using swap, join and split commands.
  • Some of the elements are kept filed du to tructursl constraints.
  • the mesh body is compared with 3D geometry by enabling the draw shell as 3D solid.

Conclusion-

The middle surface is extracted using manual method and thickness is assigned to each surface and properties are created for individual thickness. The extracted surface is then mesh and check for quality and then compared with 3D geometry.
