Challenge

Project 1

1. Main Cities with desnse population is a key feature of developing economies. The metro rail system is an efficient solution to facilitate the movement of people with least disturbance to the existing traffic. This helps people to commute between thier homes and workplaces in efficient way. The metro system either being elevated or undergorund creates least disturbance to the existing trasportation means like roads etc. The cost involved in commisioning of such rail networks are realtively low as compared to the expansion of road networks or rail networks. The main reason can be the land to be aquired for metro projects in minimal as compared to the other solutions. This is another key point which makes metro role a perfect soltion of transit system in developing economies.

2. Input Data for I -Girder Grillage Analysis

Results for Inner Girder

DL- Shear Force

DL - Bending Moment

SIDL - Shear Force

SIDL - Bending Moment

LL - Maximum Shear Case -

LL - Maximum Bending Moment Case

Results for Outer Girder

DL- Shear Force

DL - Bending Moment

SIDL - Shear Force

SIDL - Bending Moment

LL - Maximum Shear Case

LL - Maximum Bending Case

The Outer Girder has lower shear force and bending moment under live load. With this the section and Pre-stress for Outer Girder can be optimized.

3. INPUTS FOR U-GIRDER ANALYSIS

U-Girder Analysis for SLS Maximum Moment Case has been carried out.

The results for Base Slab Plates at Center are extracted

Base Slab Plate Group is as below:

The local Y axis of the plate is in transverse dirction hence the forces in y dirction of plate are summarised

Local axes of plates are as shown below:

Summary Table Identifing the critical plate (Plate No.60) with Maximum Myy as shown below:

The results of Plate No.60 are as shown below:

Node 65 -

Maximum moment = 59.805 kN.m/m

For this co-existing axial stress in y-direction is 0.217 n/sqmm. So Axial Force = 0.217x300x1000=65100N=65.1kN

Axial Force = 65.1kN/m

With these forces the design of section shall be done for unit width i.e. 1000mm
