The incomplete Engine and Vehicle Dynamics blocks from Project1_VehicleModel have been completed and enclosed herewith.Scope blocks have also been used for debugging purpose.
To workspace blocks have been used for transferring vehicle data to MATLAB workspace.Project1_ProcessingFile.m has been modified to plot the desired parameters.
Fuel Economy Number(kmpl) is found out from the program using formula.Engine transmission input, transmission output and wheel speed are plotted on one graph with respect to time.Engine torque, engine power, fuel rate and fuel consumption are plotted with respect to time using subplots.
Acceleration & brake pedal, gear command, vehicle speed and vehicle distance are are plotted with respect to time using subplots. The engine operating points are plotted on the engine fuel map.
A similar approach is adopted by changing the Drive Cycle from 1 to 2 in the Project1_InitFile.
It is being observed that fuel economy is high in HWFET Drive Cycle compared with UDDS Drive Cycle. This is because in urban driving the vehicle encounters more traffic and needs to stop covering lesser distances. This causes higher fuel consumption at the start. In HWFET the vehicle encounters no traffic and so it travels without use of much braking. So this will result more fuel economy number. The graph has more fluctuation in UDDS compared with HWFET cycle because UDDS has more starts and stops. But HWFET does not have too many starts and stops.Braking is high in UDDS compared with HWFET due to higher volume of traffic.Peak Engine Power reached in UDDS is nearly 4800 rpm and that in HWFET is 3800 rpm at the start since in UDDS cycle the vehicle requires more power to start from the initial condition.
Different sets of plots have been generated using Drive_Cycle_Select in the Project1_InitFile.Selection of value 1 corresponds to UDDS Drive Cycle while value 2 corresponds to HWFET Drive Cycle.
Vehicle Power consumption is more in the UDDS Drive Cycle compared with HWFET Drive Cycle because UDDS cycle has too many starts & stops compared with HWFET cycle. When starting from initial condition vehicle requires more power.Engine Torque is also higher in case of UDDS cycle because while starting from rest the vehicle requires more torque to overcome the static friction. The fuel rate is high in HWFET because the vehicle will be in continuous movement and so it will consume more fuel.Fuel economy will be high in case of HWFET cycle compared with UDDS cycle due to the fact that there are many starts & stops in UDDS and more fuel is consumed when the vehicle is in idle position.
For UDDS cycle acceleration and brake pedal have more fluctuations because of frequent starts & stops.UDDS cycle mostly runs on 1st as well as 2 nd gears and uses 3rd & 4th gears very rarely as it does not achieve high speed in urban traffic condition. In the HWFET cycle on the other hand the vehicle mostly runs on 3 rd and 4 th gears as it will be moving with high speeds. It uses 1 st and 2 nd gears very rarely when braking is required.Obviously the vehicle speed will be high in HWFET Drive Cycle compared with UDDS Cycle.UDDS will have more fluctuation in speed due to frequent braking. The distance travelled in the given time will be high in HWFET than in UDDS because of the traffic barrier in UDDS.
