Project 1

Design a battery pack for a car roughly 150 Kw with 120 V. Use 3500 mAh 3.6V nominal NMC chemistry cell.

a. Design the battery pack configuration.

b. Draw the BMS topology for this battery pack.

Answers:

from the give data

Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.6V.

total capacity of 150 kWh (150 kW for 1 hour)

Each cell has a capacity of 3500 mAh.

Total Capacity (Ah)=Nominal Voltage (V)Total Energy (kWh)

total capacity = 150Kwh/120v = 1250 Ah

therfore the total number of cell connected in series = total voltage /nominal voltage

= 120/3.6

= 33.33

round of to the 34 cells connected in series

Number of cell connected in Parallel = total current / nominal cell current

= 1250/3.5

=357.14

round off to the 358 number of cell connected in parallel

Therfore the total number of cell in a battery pack = 34*360 = 12240 cells are connected in battery pack

BMS topology

The BMS topology for the battery depens on the number of cell's connected in series connection

Here the number of cell connected in the series = 34 cell's

therfor i can choose the Master Slave topology for the battery pack

where the two AFE are connected and one MCU is present

for each AFE 17 cell are connected

Question 2) Build a 3S2P battery pack configuration with generic battery block using Matlab/Simulink.

for design the battery pack i have assume some of the parameters

Nominal volatage of cell 7.2 volt

rated capacity = 5.4 Ah

therefore the total voltage of the battery pack is 7.2*3 = 21.6 volt and

the capacity of the battery pack is 5.4 Ah* 2 = 10.8 Ah
