REPORT ON SIMULATION ON PLANATARY GEAR BOX

Created by Shahbaaz khan Deoda

6 June 2020

AIM: - to perform simulation of planetary gear box using solidworks.

PHYSICS: - There are several terminology used for gear designation.

Module: - is the unit of size that indicates how big or small a gear is. It is the ratio of the reference diameter of the gear divided by the number of teeth.

Pitch circle diameter: -it is the diameter of the pitch circle Pitch Circle When gear sets are visualized as a pair of smooth contacting discs, the pitch circles of the gears correspond to the diameters of the discs Pitch circles of mating gears are tangent to each other and have identical linear velocities. For that reason, pitch circles, rather than base circles are used in many gear calculations. The operating pitch circles will respond to any variations in center distance of the pair by enlarging or contracting.

Three arrangement of that setup is possible. It is use for speed and torque variation.

  1. Carrier is fixed, sun gear is input gear and ring gear is output gear.
  2. Sun gear is fixed, carrier is input and ring gear is output gear.
  3. Ring gear is fixed, and remaining two is input and output.

Calculation:

Diameter of the Planet gear :

Radius of Ring gear= Diameter of the Planet gear + radius of sun gear

Rr = Dp + Rs

Therfore,

Dp =Rr - Rs

Dp=115/2 - 35/2 = 40mm

Number of teeths of Planet gear:

Pitch diameter, D=m*T

where m=module

T= Number of teeth

therefore, T=D/m = 40/2.5 = 16

SPECIFICATION OF GEARS: -

module = 2.5……….it is same for al matting gears.

Pitch circle diameter of ring gear = 115mm

Pitch circle diameter of sun gear = 35mm

Pitch circle diameter of planet gear = 40mm

No. of teeth of ring gear = 46

No. of teeth of sun gear = 14

No. of teeth of planet gear = 16

case 1: when carrier is fixed

plot between angular velocity and time of ring gear

plot between angular velocity and time of sun gear

case 2: when ring gear is fixed

case 3: when the sun gear is fixed

CONCLUSION: - We have completed the study simulation of planetary gear box using solidworks.
