Photo Realistic Rendering

Modeling and Rendering of American Chopper using Solidworks

Objective:  The objective of this project is to design a bike named American Chopper with the given dimensions using different features present in Solidworks. After designing each part of the chopper we also assemble them to form an American Chopper. After assembling the bike it is also necessary to do the rendering to give it a realistic view.

Methodology: The American Chopper consists of the following parts.

      1. Transmission belt: Transmission belt is used in automobiles like motor bike and cars to transfer the power from the engine to the gear box .It is made up of materials like thermoplastics, metal, rubber, fabric and leather.

The tools and features used to design a transmission belt are sketch, extrude boss/base and also filet.  Material applied to the transmission belt is matte rubber.

      1. Kickstand: The kickstand is part used by the American chopper to stand vertically on road when parked. The kickstand is made up of materials such as steel or cast aluminum.

Features used in designing the kickstand of an American chopper are Lofted Boss/ Base , Dome, extruded cut, extrude boss/base and fillet

      1. Front Fender: Front fender is a part of an automobile which frames the wheel well. Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

      Features used: Revolve Boss/Base, Split,Fillet

      1. Rear fender: Rear fender is a covering over the rear tyre of the bike or any automobile. Its main purpose is to prevent the sand from spraying all over when the vehicle is on move.

Features used: Revolve Boss/Base, Split, Fillet, Shell.

      1. Chain: Chain is a part used to transmit power from engine to rear wheel of a automobile. It passes over a toothed element called sprocket.

Features used:  Extruded boss/base, mirror, linear pattern, circular pattern and combine.

      1. Rear wheel: A wheel is a part of an automobile which draws power from the engine and is responsible for the movement of the vehicle.

Different parts of a rear wheel are sprocket, rim, caliper, tyre and rotor.

Features used:   Extrude boss/ base, revolve boss/ base, extrude cut, revolved cut, circular pattern, fillet , chamfer, mirror and combine.

      1. Pedal:  This is a part of the bicycle on which the rider rests his foot. This is a place where the gears of the bike are available easily to the rider.

Features used:   Extruded boss/base, revolve boss/base, dome, Linear pattern, fillet and chamfer.

      1. Front wheel: It is rolling part which is situated in the front of the motor cycle .Its moves along with the motor bike ‘s  front fork to which it is fixed.

Features used: Revolve base/boss, extruded base/boss,extruded cut, revolved cut, extrude cut, circular pattern, mirror, combine, chamfer and fillet.

      1. Oil Tank: Oil tank is another part of the American chopper where the oil is stored for the engine to run.

Features used:  Sketch, boss extrude, combine, fillet, shell, appearance.

      10.  Front Fork: A motorcycle forkconnects a motorcycle's front wheel and axle to its frame, typically via a yoke, also known as a triple clamp, which consists of an upper yoke joined to a lower yoke via a steering stem, a shaft that runs through the steering head, creating the steering axis

Features used:  Sketch ,extrude, trim, revolve, split, plane, convert entities, Dome, mirror, combine, curve, sweep, appearance.

    1. 11.Chassis:  The Chassis or frame forms the skeleton of the bike. All the parts of the motor bike are fixed on the chassis.

Features used:  Sketch, offset, convert entities, project curve, trim, plane, sweep, split, revolve, extrude cut, Fillet, combine, appearance.

12.Engine: Engine is a part of the bike which provides power for the bike to move. In engine the chemical energy of the fuel is converted into mechanical energy. The axial motion of the bike is converted into rotational motion of the tyre.

Features used: Sketch covert entities, trim, Revolve, Boss extrude, cut extrude, offset, Dome, Fillet, Project curve, composite curve, sweep, Mirror, Circular Pattern, Split.

       13. Gas Tank: A gas tank is used to store fuel gas which is required to to drive the engine.

Features used: Sketch, Trim, Project curve, convert entities, sweep surface, loft surface, Fill surface, surface trim, Surface knit, sweep cut, fillet,Appearance

    2. Assembly of the chopper: All the parts which are designed separately with the given measurements are assembled together to form a chopper.

       Features used:  Mates, insert parts.

      15. Rendering: Rendering can be done in two ways that is photo view 360 and also solidworks visualize. Here the American chopper is rendered using photo view 360.

Conclusion:   All the parts of the American chopper are designed separately and then assembled together. After complete assembly they are rendered.
