AMERICAN CHOPPER MOTORCYCLE.
AMERICAN CHOPPER MOTORCYCLE.
Objective :-
The objective of the project was to showcase the design part of the american chopper from the ground up. Getting all the parts to the proportion and making them come together in the form of a beautiful chopper motorcycle. This includes the use of Solidworks as the main software to create the 3D model and to render we use Visulaize and photoview 360 which linked with Solidworks itself.
Intoduction :-
The American Chopper are the motorcycles which give the retro look or so called "Old School" motorcycles, To give it a modern look was something which fancies me and is propogated with the colours and the renders . Motorcycle falls under the tourer category thus given a steep angle and high rise handlebars to increase the comfort foe long rides for highways
The Software we are going to use all along the process is Solidworks and also along the way will get to use the different features and functionalities of the software for the 3D model.
Design Approach :-
Design being the most crucial part of the model and to convey the same thought of the designer to the customer is very important. In this model the flow of design was as follows
| MOOD BOARD | SKETCHING | 3D MODELLING OF PARTS | ASSEMBLY & RENDERS |
|
|
|
|
| - Freedom | - Rough Sketches | - Transmission Belt & Chain | - Applying Mates |
| - Retro | - Sketching of parts | - Chasis & Front Fork | - Adding Decals |
| - Experience | - Sketching to Proportion | - Wheels | - Adding Lights and Positioning |
| - Organic | - Sketching differnt views | - Gas Tank & Oil Tank | - Final View |
| - Pure | - Fenders | - Adding Appearences | |
| - Elegant | - Engine | - Adding Envirnments | |
| - Required Detailed Elements |
Description :-
Starting from the Chasis itself we get a good look of how our motorcycle is going to be placed and modelled using the features like sweep and projected curves to generate a frame which indulges the other parts within itself without any collison .

Now comes another important part for the assembly which are the front forks which can be a little tricky to get for a motorcycle which has a very steep angle to project and the lights , the sweep feature was used a couple of time to get the right parts to form, which is reflected very well in the image below.

Next comes the wheels which also add to the asthetic part of the motorcycle and also are a great part of the design to give it a look that resembles the design. In this project the wheels are inspired from the spider web design which was along the design part to integrate whithin and came out to be really great adding to the look and feel of the motorcycle.

Now we have both the fenders which add mainly for the look of the motorcycle and add to it needs to be merged within the design of the motorcycle as a whole. Here we get to use features such as split and revolve to get the required shape of the fenders which makes a great impact on the look of the model which has been created with the proportions playing a mojor part.

The chain and the transmission belt are the features which are very normal yet paly a important part to model as we need to get the required guided curve and the pattern followed by the parts to be precise. Features such as mirror and othe rlinear patterns along the guided curve or path were used to create the following parts.

Gas tank and the Oil tank are the parts which needed to be modelled the best in order to show or present the motorcycle as they makeup for the majority of the motorcycle's Design and the way it looks or what design inspiration it reflects in this case we gave sharp curves to the gastank with a pretty steep angle supporting the type of design we are creating along with the seat placed at an angle to provide maximum comfort. The oil tank makes up for a simple rounded shape which uses the shell feature to get along with and provides a good realistic feel to the model.

The kick stand and the pedals are a very small yet very important part of the design which adds to the practicality and shows how well the model reflects with the real world design also provides the seating position of the rider as well as the vehicle when is standstill gives it a better perspective.

Last but the most important part of any vehicle the engine of the motorcycle. This part was a little complex on modelling using various feature all along the process with respect to the position and the side of the engine. Features such as projected curves were used in order to make the exhaust be where it needs to be giving it a profile which does not collide along the way also the block of the engine placed on the chasis has to be precise with both the cylinders provide an angle between them. Along with extrude cuts and linear pattern feature we created the fins for the air cooled motorcycle.
Assembly Model :-
The final assembly model shows all the parts coming together for the motorcyle to take its shape with the required mates which makes it capable of changes without any major issues related to it.
These models also show the final looks of the motorcycle including all the decals , the appearence and colours with the mated parts to make it complete.

Realistic Renders :-

Conclusion :-
To Conclude we can say from the Ideation Phase to the Realistic Rendering we came across a lot of features and tools of the Solidworks software and the final renders do potray the final renders as per the ideas which were along the very start giving this Old School Bike a great look with both the retro and modern touches.
