MODELLING AND RENDERING OF AMERICAN CHOPPER

AIM: -

To create modelling and photo realistic rendering of American chopper using SolidWorks

OBJECTIVE:

  • To understand SolidWorks basics through chopper designing.
  • To apply different feature tools in SolidWorks.
  • Do assembly and rendering using SolidWorks.

INTRODUCTION: -

  • SolidWorks is a mechanical 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Software used to create 2D & 3D models. It helps to design products better, faster, and more cost-effectively.
  • By the end of this report we will be knowing what all parts are available in American chopper and will be knowing how an American chopper is designed with the help of SolidWorks feature tools.

COMMON TOOLS USED IN AMERICAN CHOPPER MODELING: -

PLANE: - Here the section view of the model is to be sketched

SKETCH: - It gives the work base to create 2D & 3D sketches.

EXTRUDE BOSS/BASE: - used to get a solid body in one or two directions.

REVOLVED BOSS/BASE: - Used to revolve the sketch with the reference of axis or lines in the solid form.

EXTRUDE CUT: - Used to remove materials from the solid body.

DOME: - You can create one or more dome features simultaneously on the same model.

FILLET: - It provides round shape at corners edges.

CHAMFER: - It provides sloping edges at corners.

SWEPT BOSS/BASE: - It proved a solid body by closed profile along an open and closed path.

TRIM: - It is used to cut the extra line of the surface.

PATTERN: - It features the object in a particular direction or path

PROJECTED CURVE: - It combines two 2D Continuous curves into a 3D curve.

SPLIT: - Use the Split feature to create multiple parts from an existing part.

MIRROR: - Creates a copy of a feature, (or multiple features), mirrored about a face or a plane.

SURFACE LOFT: - allows you generate complex geometry in a single feature.

BOUNDARY SURFACE: - The boundary surface feature lets you create surfaces that can be tangent or curvature continuous in both directions (all sides of the surface).

TRIM: - It is used to cut the extra line of the surface.

APPEARANCE: - Using this can get a different look & apply different materials.

SHELL: - The shell tool hollows out a part.

DECALS: - Using this tool painted stickers to be applied.

SWEPT SURFACE: - It proved a surface by closed profile along an open and closed path.

KNIT SURFACE: - Used to provide appropriate tolerance

VIEW (HEADS-UP): -

Following command comes under this: -

  • Zoom to Fit
  • Zoom to Area
  • Previously view
  • Section view
  • View orientation
  • Display style
  • Hide Item

COMPONENTS OF AMERICAN CHOPPER: -

1.chassis

2.Engine

3.Front fork

4.Pedal

5.Chain

6.Oil tank

7.Gas tank

8.Transmission belt

9.front fender

10.Rear fender

11.Front wheel

12.Rear wheel

13.Kick stand

All the parts are designed separately and finally assembled together to get the final American chopper.

Chassis

The base frame of American chopper on which all the parts are assembled.

Engine

a machine with moving parts that converts power into motion.

Front fork

The front fork is a suspension component for the chopper.

Pedal

the thing which helps in switching gears.

Chain

Chain drive is a way of transmitting mechanical power from one place to another. It is often used to convey power to the wheels of a vehicle, particularly bicycles and motorcycles.

Oil tank

In this tank the fluids required to run the engine are stored.

Gas tank

In this tank the fuel required to run the chopper is stored.

Transmission belt

This system, as the name suggests, comprises of a shaft that's connected to the gearbox output via a universal joint, which is essentially a coupling that facilitates transmission of rotary power at any selected angle. At the other end, the shaft is connected to the rear wheel hub via a spiral bevel gear.

Fender

the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

Rear fender: - Front fender: -

WHEELS: -

wheels are made to cope with radial and axial forces. They also provide a way of mounting other critical components such as the brakes, final drive and suspension.

Rear Wheel: - Front Wheel: -

Kick Stand: -

A kickstand is a device on a motorcycle that allows the bike to be kept upright without leaning against another object or the aid of a person.

ASSEMBLY OF AMERICAN CHOPPER:

All the modelled parts were inserted one by one in assembly. The parts were inserted randomly in the assembly environment and were given manual mates by taking chassis as reference so that all the parts move with respect to chassis only when chassis floats.

To make the assembly of American chopper we have to use some of the mates. They are following below

concentric mate

Parallel mate

Angle mate

Distance mate

Advance mate

PHOTOVIEW360 RENDERING

To make the chopper more realistic to use the photoview360.To the usage of some commands in photo view360 like camera, decals, Edit scene and etc.

SOLIDWORKS VISUALISE:

SolidWorks visualise is used to render the American chopper, by the usage of some tools of the visualise and background settings is give the American chopper in more and more realistic.

Conclusion:

Modelling, assembly and rendering of an American chopper is successfully done by SolidWorks.
