Project Report
American Chopper
AIM:
To gain knowledge on CAD modelling by modelling a American chopper using solid works.
OBJECTIVE:
To build every component of an American chopper by using the various tools in solidworks and also to make the chopper more realistic by using photoview 360.
Components of chopper:
- Chassis
- Chain
- Engine
- Kickstand
- Front fork
- Front fender
- Front wheel
- Oil tank
- Gas tank
- Pedal
- Transmission Belt
- Rear fender
- Real wheel
Procedure:
Chassis:
The chassis is the back bone or frame of the model in which all the components are mounted.
Tools used:
- Curve
- Sweep
- Mirror
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Split
- Combine
- Mirror
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Chain:
Chain drive is used to transmit power one place to another. It is used to give forward motion to the chopper by using sprocket.
Tools used:
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Curve driven pattern
- Mirror

Rendered model:
Engine:
Engine is the heart of the vehicle. It is used to give power to the other components like chain drive etc...by using fuels.
Tools used:
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Revolve
- Circular Pattern
- Dome
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Mirror
- Split
- Sweep
- Composite Curve

Rendered Model:
Kickstand:
Kickstand is connected with the chopper frame or chassis which is used to support the chopper when the vehicle is in rest.
Tools used:
- Spline
- Loft
- Split
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Dome
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Front fork:
Front fork has the throttle which is used to drive the vehicle and also it used to change the direction of the chopper. It is connected to front wheel and the frame of the chopper.
Tools used:
- Revolve
- Extrude
- Fillet
- Linear Pattern
- Dome
- Cut Revolve
- Fillet
- Combine
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Front fender:
Front fender is mounted above the front wheel which is used safe our self by not getting dirty while driving.
Tools used:
- Spline
- Fillet
- Extrude
- Split
- Revolve
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Front wheel:
Front wheel is used to guide the vehicle’s direction and it is a driven wheel.
Tools used:
- Revolve
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Circular Pattern
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Combine
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Oil tank:
Oil tank is used to store the oil which is used the vehicle in various process like and components like engine etc...
Tools used:
- Spline
- Fillet
- Extrude
- Combine
- Shell
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Gas tank:
The main purpose of gas tank is to store the fuel for the engine which is used to give power to other components.
Tools used:
- Surface Sweep
- Surface Trim
- Surface Loft
- Boundary Surface
- Surface Knit
- Sweep cut
- Fillet
- Mirror
- Shell

Rendered Model:
Pedal:
Pedals are mounted on the outer side of the chassis which is used shift the gear.
Tools used:
- Spline
- Extrude
- Extrude Cut
- Mirror
- Dome
- Chamfer
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Transmission belt:
Transmission belt is also used to transmit power like chain drive.
Tools used:
- Fillet
- Extrude
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Rear fender
Rear fender is also used for the purpose like front fender.
Tools used
- Spline
- Fillet
- Extrude
- Split
- Revolve
CAD Model:
Rendered Model:
Rear wheel:
The rear wheel is the driver wheel which gets the power from the gear box.
Tools used:
- Revolve
- Extrude
- Cut Extrude
- Circular Pattern
- Chamfer
- Fillet
- Combine

Assembly of chopper:
The components which of the American chopper is model and assembled by using the solidworks assembly to get the complete model or look of the American chopper.
Tools used:
- Mid plane mate
- Tangent mate
- Coincident
- Parallel
- Perpendicular
- Distance mate
- Angle mate
- Concentric
- Width mate
- Mirroring of pedal
Rendering of chopper:
Rendering is used to make the model look more realistic and impressive than the cad model view by using some features in the photoview 360 in solidworks.
Tools used:
- Edit appearance
- Edit scene
- Edit decal
- Integrated preview
- Preview window
- Final render
- Schedule render
- Camera
- Light
Rendered Model:
Conclusion:
Thus, the modelling and assembly of chopper and its component is successfully completed and also the realistic view of chopper is also done by using photoview 360 in solidworks.
