Neon Side Crash Analysis of BIW model.
OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of this challange is to set all the pre processing parameters for the simulation in the given model. then run it into the RADIOSS solver and get all the desired output request.
These are the recommended checks performed in the model:-
1. Check unit system and either follow [Mg mm s] or [Kg mm ms].
2. Create appropriate interface ,friction 0.2 and recommended parameters.
3. Make sure of no penetration and intersections.
4. Create rigid wall with friction 0.1 as per referance model.
5. Compare the model weight with the referance model and use added masses to reach target weight 700kg while getting CG about the required range.
6. Initial velocity as shown in picture.
7. Use model checker to ensure good quality.
8. Timestep :0.5 to 0.1 microseconds.
9. Run 80ms.
Output requests:
- Sectional force in the cross member.
- Intrusion at B pillar, hinge pillar and fuel tank region.Provide recommendation on what can help to reduce Fuel tank intrusion.
- Peak velocity of inner node of the door.
1. Check unit system and either follow [Mg mm s] or [Kg mm ms].
2. Create appropriate interface ,friction 0.2 and recommended parameters.

4. Create rigid wall with friction 0.1 as per referance model.
5. Compare the model weight with the referance model and use added masses to reach target weight 700kg while getting CG about the required range.
Required weight =Target weight - Available weight of the model
Required weight =700kg-166.3076139 kg =533.6923861 kg.
The required weight is added to these yellow nodes, to achive the target weight and COG of the car.
6. Initial velocity as shown in picture.
Initial velocity card is created with 15.6464 mm/sec in the positive Y-direction.
7. Use model checker to ensure good quality.
After setting all the parameter, checked the mode wheather all the function and parameters assigned properly or not. To check it clicked on the Quality option--->Model checker-->Run
8. Timestep :0.5 to 0.1 microseconds.
9. Run 80ms.
To set the Run time , Control card--->RUN--->final time for run (80 ms).
SIMULATION Results (RADIOSS):-
Energy error= -2.5 %
Mass error= 0.8856E-02
Animatio Of the crash model:-
OUTPUT REQUEST:
I)Sectional force in the Cross members.
a)Sectional force Below the driver's seat cross member
Maximum sectional force =3.47528 at t= 79.5 ms and at t= 79.5 the force is 3.47528 kN, can be seen in the graph.
b)Sectional force B-Pillar cross member .
Maximum sectional force =4.42195 kN at t= 61 ms and at t= 79.5 the force is 3.01212 kN, can be seen in the graph.
II)Plot for Intrusions after crash.
a)Intrusion at B-Pillar
During the crash,
Intrution=1300-349=951 mm
b)Intrusion at hinge pillar
During the crash,
Intrution=1300-670=630 mm
c)Intrusion at Fuel tank.
During the crash,
Intrution=1300-499=801 mm
III) Peak velocity of inner node of the door.
Peak velocity at node 337773.
Maximum peak velocity is occuring at t= 4.5 ms and its value is 15.813 mm/ms.
at t=80 ms its value is 797048 mm/ms.
DIFFERENT ENERGY PLOTS:-
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:
i) To compare the model with reference model, 533.6923861 kg mass is added to the model also by taking care of Centre of gravity.
ii) Accepable energy error is upto 15% and the occuring energy error after simulation is -2.5%, thus it is within the acceptable range.
iii) Mass error is also within the acceptable range i.e 0.8856%.
iv) Plot for energy is also looks fine, as normal flow and tranformation of energy can be seen in the graph.
v) By reducing the weight of the fuel tank ,intrusion on fuel tank can be controlled. with less mass less momentum will generate.
CONCLUSION:
By setting all the recommended parameters , and running it into the radioss solver all the required output results are obtained and explined. Thus the objectives are achived successfully.
