Design and modelling of American Chopper using Solidworks.

OBJECTIVE:-

The objective of this project is to design an American chopper using solidworks and assemble its all the parts and create a photorealistic view.

INTRODUCTION:-

A chopper is a type of custom motercycle which emerged in California in 1950s.The chopper perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles, often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a streached-out appearance. Some characteristic features of chopper are long front ends with extended forks often coupled with an increased rake angle , hard tail frames ( frames without rear suspension),very tall "ape hanger" or very short"drag" handlebars.Lengthened or streached frames,and larger than stock front wheels.

DESIGN AND MODELLING OF COMPONENTS:-

• CHASSIS:-

Much like human spine and the supporting skeleton,a chopper chassis holds everything togethar-from engine,suspension,wheels,fork,fenders,seat etc.

Commands used during creation of chassis:-

Extrude boss/base:-An extruded boss/base feature allows to take a 2D sketch and add thickness to it in 3rd dimension.

Revolved boss/base:-It is used to create solid 3D model around an axis.

Cut extrude:-It cuts a solid model by extruding sketch profile or selected contours in one or more directions.

Fillet:-It creates a rounded internal/external face on the part.

Chamfer:-It creates beveled feature on selected edges,faces or a vertex.

Swept boss/base:-It helps to sweep a closed profile along a closed or open path.

Split body:-This feature is use to split the bodies.

• ENGINE:-

The engine of a chopper is the part that produces the power which makes the chopper move.

Commands used during creation of Engine:-

Projected curve:-It is use to form 3D curves from two 2D curves from two different planes.

Mirror:-Creates a copy of feature(or multiple features),mirrored about a face or plane.

Dome:-It gives some shape on the flat faces or an area of flat face.

Combine:-It combines two or more bodies.

Circular pattern:-It creates a circular pattern of selected sketch profile along path.

In Choppers pedals are used to changing gears and for braking.

• KICKSTAND

A kickstand is a device attached with the chopper that allows the chopper to be kept upright without leaning against another object.

• FUEL TANK

A fuel tank is a safe container for flamable fuel,which burns inside the combustion chamber of an engine.

Commands used during the creation of fuel tank:-

Split line:-It is used to project an entity(sketch,solid,faces,planes,surface or surface spline)onto other surfaces or curved/planer faces.

Surface knit:-This tool is used to combine two or more than two faces and surfaces into one.

Shell:-It is used to define thickness of thin and thick shell element.

ASSEMBLING OF ALL DIFFERENT COMPONENTS TOGETHER

All different components are assembled together by providing the necessary relations (parallel, perpendicular,coincident) between them by mate option.after assembling some of the components was not looking great so edited those parts.

Rendering performed in Photoview 360 and scene, enviroment are arranged in Solidworks visualise 2018.

CONCLUSION:-

Each part of the American Chopper is successfully created in solidworks. And all parts are successfully assembled together. To give realistic view to it rendering is performed on the assembled model.
