Modelling and simulation of flow through a flowbench
Modeling and simulation of flow through a flowbench
Objectives:
- Grid dependence test
- For three grids running the simulation at a particular valve lift and explain your results
- Observing the effect of valve lift on the mass flow rate
Introduction:
The primary objective of this challenge is to model a simple valve and port and find out outflow velocity, pressure, and the mass flow rate is affected by different valve lifts. A secondary is to perform a grid dependency test for a particular valve lift and explain the results.
Procedure:
Create a valve port and valve. The valve can be self-designed or can be recreated from another design. The valve being tested here is a generic valve taken from a journal. Physical Dimensions attached in the picture.
Make sure that the Drawing is done in such a way that the valve lift can be varied sequentially.
Boundary Conditions:
- total pressure at inlet: 5 Bar
- Static pressure outlet: 1Bar

- Conclusion:
-
As the valve lift increases the mass flow rate also increases and the velocity of air is proportional to the increase in mass flow rate thus decrease in pressure.
